the only thing bothering me is the crop on the top left side - for my taste that's too narrow - either more black space or directly cropped to the stomach would be my choice

I see where you're coming from, but I think widening the black space would unbalance the photo.
Right now, the muscle of the hip is almost perfectly centered and the eye is drawn over the curves of his backside and thighs. If the picture were wider we would lose the focal area because the eye wouldn't know where to start.

I agree with ~yatu-ex , but I would go for the crop on the left hand side by a couple of millimeters, so that the stomach touches the left hand frame removing that slither of distracting black background.

I think that would cut off the picture oddly.
The curve of his ab is such that to crop in the left hand frame to avoid a black spot properly would take out some skin as well.
