Edit: Sorry for reuploading! I forgot a very minor but embarrassing detail. -__-Feels like very little result for a lot of effort. Well, here is my piano attempt. Time to sleep like the dead.
This would never be possible without ~blacksockstock 's [link] as reference.

Oh I love playing the piano so much and your painting just reminded me of beethoven ... somehow. I know the skyscrapers and so on are not his time but the atmosphere makes it all ^^
just wonderful and it looks interesting because one doesn't know whether the man is gonna play or if he even can play

Thanks! Grand pianos always have such an air of promise to me. Even when no one is playing them, I can imagine the music as well...

You said all I wanted to say ^^
I myself love playing the piano and I have a grand piano here at home I love it ^^
But I mostly play and hear classical music which is why people find it boring oo

Thank you very much! It's mostly thanks to =3wyl 's advice that the empty space doesn't look imbalanced.

Wow! I really thought this was a photo when I saw the thumb. The details are so amazing and yet beautifully sparse and ethereal; I love the idea of a piano in an empty room looking over the city, itβs a place I would never have thought of it being and it creates an interesting atmosphere. Itβs a scene that is very skillfully set with the use of empty space and only a couple of props. Lovely work!

Ohh, thank you very much! Sometimes I get a really clear (and unexpected) idea for a picture, and this was one of those times. ^^ Originally it would have been less blue, but I'm glad the mood came across.

Thanks! The perspective was a challenge, so I'm glad it doesn't look awkward.

Pianos are complicated to draw. I guess one solution is to draw them from far away enough. That seems to have worked here.

You are completely right about that. I think the problem is the reflective quality of its surface.

I really thought this was a photography piece, then. O.o
This is stunning, to be frank. I really like the colours you've chosen, as well as the setting. Both the flare and the reflection add some brilliant depth to this too.
The writing at the bottom is alright... although I'm not particularly fond of how they're all squeezed out and such. That's just probably me.
You could also make this into a proper square 900x900, which would make it even more awesome.

vitellan In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-16 20:02:16 +0000 UTC]
You may be right about the writing. I was really conflicted about whether or not to put it there; without it, it looked a little unbalanced. Should I try putting up a blank version (without the words)?

3wyl In reply to vitellan [2010-01-16 20:06:45 +0000 UTC]
I like the writing, but... perhaps you could use a different font, different effect, etc.
You could put one up if you like.
I think it'd help slightly if you cropped a bit of the bottom, perhaps.

vitellan In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-16 23:14:07 +0000 UTC]
Too lazy to hunt for the perfect font. XD Eh. I'll keep it in mind for the next similar project I do.

How do you like it now?

vitellan In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-17 20:49:40 +0000 UTC]
It seems less tacky without the words. Good call on the cropping. I like it better this way.
