Description
finally a black and white tutorial...here's the finishes result for this pic: [link]
a better colored pencil tutorial: [link]
good luck.
one last thing- don't worry if your final result doesn't look perfect, mine don't, no human is perfect so why should a drawing of an imperfect person be perfect??

this is how i origionaly learned thow to draw, my grid squares are much larger, less erasing. and if you have a paint program you can just put the grid on a picture through your computer

i've heard of this method and would like to try, but what about the grid on your paper? do you draw it lightly or something?

i think it's the best way to learn -not really how to draw- but how to actually LOOK and study what it is you want to draw i just draw the grid on the paper very lightly and erase it as i go, most of it will be covered by the pencil anyways

Awesome work, nice ref. pic!D Liked the way you showed the shading on the skin before smoothing it with your fingers,
it gives us a clear idea of what to do.
Thanks!
And don't get bored about this "~pansejra " guy, he/she doesn't know what he/she is talking about.
You ARE very talented.
I like your ohter drawings by the way..

You think its great and a token of talent, when you draw/copy things this way?

Sakeozo In reply to z-vav [2012-12-08 02:57:19 +0000 UTC]
Actually, drawing/copying this way is still good for artist's need. They need that kind of thing to comprehend on shading, texture, lighting source, and such.
I attend to this technical school, and I take in this class known as advertising design. We were required to do a weekly artwork from a reference picture to improve on our comprehending.
So, please don't always assume that copying are bad for you.

I've been studying fine arts and we were taught to learn how to draw textures and shading from real things, not picture. Pictures should stand for things we can't see in real life.

you have absolutely NO IDEA about what's going on, and even if you DID that still doesn't give you the right to randomly insult every submission you don't like.
thing is, you've used a word which has really really pissed me off, and that word is TALENT. because if you fucking DO "know what's going on" then oooh you would really know that every single comment - every single comment!, i've ever recieved that says something like "you're so talented", every single one has my reply underneath that underlines the fact that i do not believe AT ALL to be talented, in fact, i used to underline it so much that for 3 of the 4 years that i've been on deviantart that was my personal signature.
so, has anyone ever said anything about talent?? NOPE. your statement is completely unnecessary.
oh, by the way, the whole point of a tutorial is to show people how you did something because ANYONE CAN DO IT, anyone at all.
so.. talent?? you've got the wrong person.

I have just the same experience, Francesca. People often tell me that I am talented, but although I admit I sometimes let this go without comment for an easy life, I usually try to correct them by saying that it is just a skill, which anyone could learn, given patience, practice and an eye for detail. You prepared this tutorial to show the how it can be done, I wrote a journal, documenting my artistic journey from its laughable beginnings, to show the effect of practice and experience (I have been on DeviantART for one year. ).
I draw from photos because it gives me pleasure, not because I want to be a true artist. I do draw nudes from life in a weekly class, but do not post these on dA or elsewhere. The time constraints there require a very different approach to drawing.

Okay. Im glad you know you dont have talent. Because you really dont. And I also would like to tell you, that copying stuff like this is really not something you should be famous for or proud of. You know what pisses me off? When someone like you just copy photos and think, that he/she can show to the other people how good he/she is and when he/she wants to teach the other people how to do the same stuff, which is just rude to the other people. Why dont you try to draw at least from a photo, but on your own, without putting the papers on and copying? Why dont you try to learn how to draw a human figure, human face, but without photos... I know why... cuz its way too difficult for you to even try... damn I really dont like people like you are, who dont try, just copy, cuz its simple.

i really do not get your point.
besides the fact that, what do you care? i have A LOT more page views than you so uuuuuhmmmm i think some people do like my stuff cos they're inspired. maybe you're jelous, that's why you're saying these pretty pointless things..? huh?
let me put it this way:
1.check the date. i was four years younger. four years is a fuck long time. i had just got into drawing and what did i choose to explore? a tecnique that i liked. so that's what i did for a short period of time and it's definately not what i'm doing now. tecnique is important. yes, so is drawing from life... IF that's what you're interested in doing. obviously i'm not.
2. there is an important relationship when drawing from someone else's work which you'll probably never understand because i doubt you dig into the importance of inspiring and being inspired, it is contained in the manifesto of a VERY good painting i did, yes from a photo, yes, to make my painting tecnique near-perfect, but of course you haven't bothered to look at my recent work. -let's just insult the crappiest thing i can find in someone's gallery! yeah!
3.like i said i've never ever ever claimed to be talented. is talent important? oooh only good people (like uhm, you i presume?) are allowed to draw. yeah. cos they have talent so they're allowed to have a deviantart account. cos they've got talent. yep.
showing people how good i am? out of the question.
like i said, you got the wrong person.

Nevermind... maybe once you will understand. When you do, let me know, we can have a chat about what was going on. Till that time... have fun and enjoy the life. Cya.
