If only I could get my kids to understand this!

They think life just happens to you and I'm very afraid that they'll sit around waiting for it! Then again, they're teenagers, maybe the lightbulb will turn on soon.

They are growing. First thing they need to learn is focus. Setting priorities comes next. Responsibility comes with the actual doing. That's just my thought. we're all just works in progress.

I see each of those in them every once in a while and to tell the truth...they're good kids. We left them alone for 4 days and they remembered to medicate the dog and do all the other things we told them. They even checked in when they were supposed to, all except for once. I guess I can't help but compare them to myself and I was always work driven, whether it was farm chores and/or my part time job starting at age 12. By 15 I was on my own paying for an apartment and finishing high school. When I think about it I'm being unfair to judge them against that. It's definitely not the norm and I'm sure in time they'll find the drum they need to march to.

And you're right...we're all works in progress. I'm just now learning how to let go of responsibility and have "fun". The loss of my younger brother a few years ago is what made me question things because we had thought he was having too much fun and when he got sick we were glad that he'd had the chance to have fun. So I made some changes and now I'm going to college like I've always wanted and I'm learning photography. Not wild for most but for me it's a big leap into being frivolously selfish.
