Description
This is a photo of a male Burrowing Owl that kept flying over it's nest to check on his mate... There were about six Burrowing Owl nests at the Sunrise Community Balloon Race, but I only saw two pairs of owls out during the times that I went to the races..The Burrowing Owl is on Canada's Endangered Species list, but is not listed in the United States at this time..
Location: Tamiami Airport, Kendall, Florida

Thank you very much!
The Oregon coast has a lot of great spots like that, thanks to the rocky shorelines and usually high winds, especially along the southern coast.

im so jealous that you took this awesome shot... how long did it take to get this? and what kind of lens did you use?

Thank you Andrew
It took me probably a couple hundred shots over the last nine months to be able to get this one shot. I don't get to see the Great Egrets around the lake that often, and it is even less often I am close enough to them when they are flying around the lake, so when I do see one nearby I will hang out for a while waiting for my chance.
For this shot I was using my Nikkor 79-200mm 2.8 VR lens @ 200mm f-8 priority, and the exposure was 1/800 sec.

Thank you Rob! With this guy I sat near his nest for hours watching and waiting.. I was able to get quite a few shots of him as he was not overly frightened of people.. I was also able to get several shots of his mate when she came out of the nest to screech and hiss at all of us sitting around her nest!

Thank you Sterling!
It was amazing how fast these owls can dart around, and how he could fly up over the nest and hover there for a few seconds to carefully look over the nest... wings beating so fast!
