Description     This was first started in roughly June 20, but I put off it for weeks because of homework and fatigue. So apologies for the lateness

Also, I'm trying to use different styles for each image. And the images are going to overlap because I used so many layers.

    1) Sandbar and Kili have a great relationship. Kili's special talent is singing and music making, which she got at age 10, and while Sandbar has a different kind of cutie mark, he's also a good singer and is always happy to sing with her even before she got her mark.

When they had kids, Sandbar was especially attached to Kili. Yona sometimes joked that he spoiled her, and Sandbar would love to disagree, but first he has to give Kili her seventh chocolate bar that she really likes, and read her her favorite storybook, and braid her hair, ok? Sandbar and Kili often sing in her room, until Turquoise screamed at them to shut up. Kili considers them her fondest memories.

Prior to Kili getting her cutie mark, it was unclear whether pony hybrids could get cutie marks. The zebras, kirins, longma, and asses (donkeys, onagers, and kiangs) are the ponies' closest relatives, and while zebras do have marks similar to cutie marks, kirins, lomgma, and asses don't get cutie marks. While hybrids between ponies and zebras and asses were reported to have cutie marks, such hybrids were rare and ancedotal. As a result, nobody expected Kili to spontaneously sport a butt mark after winning her first singing competition. Sandbar and Yona were surprised, but quickly embraced Kili's new mark.

Nowadays, they still get along very well. Sandbar has been increasingly concerned about Kili's deteriorating relationship with Nym, the latest in several failed friendships. He suspects that Kili's own faults are damaging her relationships and fears that she is going to hurt more people in the future.

    2) Between the two of them, Twilight usually got along better with her father Night Light. Velvet was just more of an adrenaline seeker whose interests map closer to Shining Armor's, while Night Light was more inclined for neatness and organization, like Twilight Sparkle.

The Sparkle family, as they are called, are descendants of moonicorns. When Nightmare Moon first transformed, she wanted loyal followers. And loyal followers, she got. In droves. For their loyalty, NM altered their bodies to become what she called "night mares". Yeah, how original. Pegasi shed their remiges for bat wings, and unicorns' eyes were flecked with glowing speckles, while Earth ponies grew longer fangs than either pegasi and unicorns. It's not known why they joined, as a lot of information about NM is lost to history. The reenactment Twilight saw in S4 is only a dramatization that intentionally shortend the duration of the conflict because the potion's effects only last a few minutes, so Zecora had to alter the potion so it would provide all of the info needed within the timeframe of the effects.

However, ponies do know that post-banishment, the night mares, now renamed to the somewhat less lame "bat ponies", became ostracized by other ponies because people don't like treason very much. The pegasi got it the worst, as their changes were the most visible, so they immediately fled to the woods for another millennium. Meanwhile, the Earth ponies and unicorns stayed and assimilated into society, as their own changes were harder to notice, let alone connect to NM and their treachery. They made sure to avoid mingling with pegasai, out of fear that a pegasus foal would be born with the bat pony phenotype and give away the rest of the family. Night Light and Velvet are both descendants of bat ponies, though only Night Light, Twilight Sparkle, and Supernova express the recessive genotype for long fangs and starry eyes. I'm still not sure whether to give Twilight bat wings or keep them feathered tho.

This image takes place decades after the events of S9. Night Light is much older, like over 60 years old, and it's showing. While his hair took a long time to gray, his face did get wrinklier. Meanwhile, Twilight was reliving her nightmarish puberty, and is increasingly suspecting that it might've made her slightly younger. She was always tall and lanky, but she quickly grew to nearly twice her original height by the time of this image. Unfortunately, she also suffered several breakouts of acne as a side effect, which is not a great thing to have when she's the ruler of the most powerful nation in the world.

Thankfully, Night Light got her a veil with clasps to cover up her latest acne attack. At least that's one less thing for his daughter to worry about.

Also, both of them have the flecks. They're just too far away for them to be visible. And

    3) Now, Spike. His journey is rather fraught and stressful for him. Here, he's just chilling with his two kids. How he got to that point was very unpleasant for him, and Twilight is the one raising the two.

It started when he was dating Gabby several years back. He had gotten over his crush on Rarity, mostly because she's a grown mare with a business and he just entered dragon puberty. Rarity is one of the older members of the Mane Six, seeing as in the finale, she's the only one with gray hairs, and no one else has graying hair or a reason to hide them. Also a lot of their interaction consisted of Rarity using Spike's puppy crush to manipulate him into doing her chores for her, which isn't exactly a healthy basis for a romantic relationship. So instead Spike, 14 dragon years old at the time, hooked up with Gabby, who was 16 in griffon years. Gabby worked, and still works, as a messenger and mailman in Griffonstone. There are no requirements for becoming one other than being a good flier and reliable with the deliveries. Since he and Gabby got along so well and they weren't as far apart in age as him and Rarity, Spike thought he can handle a relationship.

Problem is, griffons age at the same rate as ponies, but dragons age at roughly half the rate of ponies. Twilight was roughly 30 at the time, and 3-4 when Spike was born. Just 2 years later, Gabby was nearly 18 years old, while Spike was only 15. This forced Spike to confront the reality that, as a dragon, he's going to outlive her, and anyone he cared about who isn't another dragon or straight up immortal. Also being 15, he handles this in the best way he could think of: by hiding it. This is also when he learns something important about Gabby: he knows he ages slowly, but she doesn't. Remember, Griffonstone is rather impoverished, while the Dragon Lands don't take kindly to non-dragons. This meant that Gabby doesn't know all that much about dragons apart from their appearance.

All this gives Spike the very, very bright idea of aging himself up so he and Gabby can still be a thing. Remembering that hoarding things can age a dragon rapidly, he starts collecting stuff. Mostly small, insignificant things like sequins, feathers, colorful pebbles, lost socks, and the occasional comic book, and stashes his little dragon hoard in a room near his personal bedroom. It's just enough to bump up his physical age to 17, then he sets his aging rate to match a griffon's. Whenever they head to the library, he keeps Gabby away from books on dragons, and if she presses him on it, he just reads them out loud to her without letting her see what's actually written on it. Eventually, Twilight starts getting suspicious. Since when did Spike get so tall? And why is he acting strange whenever Gabby asks him about dragons? Also, why does she keep finding sequins and comic books when she sweeps up his room? After she started asking questions, it didn't take long for her to realize what's going on. She's pissed at Spike for being so irresponsible, and demands that he comes clean and end his relationship asap. Spike refuses, insisting that since he's technically an adult (21), his relationship with Gabby is A-OK, and he can handle it perfectly fine. Twilight then asks if he's mature enough to handle it, then when Spike doesn't answer, she walks away.

All this hoarding comes with a catch, however. It's reversible, stupidly reversible. All it takes is an unwillingness to keep growing and all those extra years comes crashing down. When Spike was 22 (17 in normal dragon years) and Gabby 23, she shows up on Twilight and Spike's doorstep with an egg. Her egg with Spike. Ooh shit. She can't take care of it because she's usually busy, and often moves houses in Griffonstone. She promises Spike to send money to help take care of it. She also gifted him a heart-shaped rock she made because she thought it was cute and wanted Spike to be happy. This made Spike really guilty for lying about his age the whole time, prompting him to revert back to his true age, much to Gabby's shock.

Twilight finds out and she nearly blew up at the two, but deflates and just quietly tells them she'll take care of the egg. She put it in magical stasis so they can deal with it later, and she has a heart to heart with Spike. She's still mad at Spike, but she's not going to take it out on him. Spike admits that he's afraid that he'll outlive most of the people he knows, and Twilight couldn't be upset at him anymore, promising that if he needs help, he can always turn to her or any of the other alicorns. He and Gabby break up the next day because of their age gap, and Twilight made sure to keep the press away from Ponyville for the rest of the year. Spike dismantled his hoard and threw most of it away (except the comic books, they were great). He still keeps the rock heart and the egg.

Later, 18 year old Spike started dating 18 year old Sweetie Belle. It was a nice little romance. After several years, Spike and Sweetie Belle also considered marrying, seeing as they were both in their late 20s to mid 30s, but eventually Spike's fear of outliving the people he cares about returns with a vengeance. Seeing that she's going to pass him by like Gabby, he decided to consult Cadance, who supports the notion. He broke up with Sweetie Belle, and a week later, went to talk with Twilight because the egg is still there and they can't keep it like this forever, but Twilight isn't sure if Spike would approve. It's been around a decade since Spike and Gabby broke up, and Spike's in a healthier state. After some discussion, Twilight decides to hatch the egg and raise the hatchling as their guardian. When it hatched a few months later, Twilight named the baby Tanzanite because purbl, then they learned that oops, Sweetie was pregnant and Spike's the father. Because Rarity was already busy with her work and her three kids, and Sweetie was also busy at work, Twilight adopted the baby, Tourmaline, and is now the legal guardian of Tanzanite and Tourmaline. Spike often chips in to help, and the two recognize him as their dad, though "Auntie Twily" is more than nervous about telling them about their past.

In this picture, Tanzanite and Tourmaline are 5 and 4 respectively, and Spike's babysitting them because Twilight's on a conference meeting. Spike loves to dote on them, and they're so fluffy.
