Clockwise from top left: Stellar Glitz, Luster Dawn, Spike, Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armor, Luna, Celestia, Supernova, Syzygy, Diamond Dust, Needle PointHi guys, I just struggled with my exhaustion/writer's block long enough to give you this. I hope it's good. I'm trying out a bunch of art styles because I'm never fully comfortable with committing to one. Hope someone can comment to me on which style looks best.
1) So here's the rundown on Stellar and Luster's family. Starlight and Trixie are married in this verse, and want kids, but Trixie isn't comfortable with carrying a foal, and while it's possible to use magic to conceive, Starlight doesn't trust herself to use it properly. So they got Sunburst to be a surrogate for them, and Starlight gave birth to Luster Dawn 9 months later. A few decades later, the couple decided to have another kid, and since Starlight is much more comfortable in her magical ability, they went for the magical option. Starlight got some of Trixie's eggs, multiplied them, converted them into sperm, and impregnated herself with it to produce Stellar Glitz.
Stellar Glitz is at least 2 decades younger than Luster Dawn. The above pic shows her at 10; Luster's in her 30s. Stellar really looks up to Luster, and used to want to attend Twilight's School of Friendship. Nowadays, she's more interested in history and attending the School of Magic, which is run by Twilight. She does have a lot of questions about it. Like why it's only for unicorns for example.
2) Here's Supernova's older enby twin, Syzygy. They're beautiful, smart, talented, and have the full set of alicorn features, which annoys their sister to no end. Twilight says she loves all of her kids, but she clearly has a favorite, and it's not Supernova. Syzygy's also hard to read; their facial expressions are fairly muted and they don't talk all that much, so Supernova is left guessing what they think, which further strains their relationship. On the other hand, they do make it clear that they find Supernova irritating, mostly because of her bombastic and forceful personality, never a good thing to have when meticulously ordering their books in alphabetical order of the author's names.
That being said, they're not as content about their lot in life as they look. As Twilight's heir, they have a lot of attention on their tail, including invasive media and rumors about them. Neither Syzygy and Supernova are fully equine, and they both chose to hide it to make themselves look as nonthreatening as possible. Syzygy also has a bunch of disguises to wear if she wants to do something in a public area without getting noticed.
Unlike their mother and sister, they're very visibly bat pony. Twilight's family and many other descendants of bat ponies has a gene that controls how much of the bat pony gene can be expressed, even if one is homogeneous for the bat pony gene, like Twilight. The bat pony gene is dominant, but the restricting gene is incompletely dominant; one copy of the allele doesn't limit the expression of the bat pony gene as much as two copies. Twilight is heterogeneous for the restricting gene, but both of her bio kids are homogeneous against it; Shining is homogenous for the bat pony gene, but is also homogeneous for the restricting allele, so he doesn't have sparkly eyes or sharp fangs like his sister or father (heterogeneous like Twi)
3) When Spike was born, Celestia allowed Twi's family to adopt him. Since Twilight couldn't be expected to rear him at a mere 4 years of age, her parents signed up to be Spike's guardians, but a year later, they decided to be official foster parents because they'd grown attached to the baby dragon. Twi considers him to be her brother, and so does Shining.
That being said, Spike gets a rather unusual education. He was educated in public schools until he and Twilight moved to Ponyville, where his education was provided by Twilight when he wasn't doing chores. It was made easier by his teleportating fire (which he passed on to Tanzanite) and Twilight's large library, but to this day, Twilight wonders if it was good enough.
Shining is 9 years older than Twilight, and chronologically 13 years older than Spike. Here, they are 14, 5, and 0.5 years old, running around causing trouble in the streets. They and their parents belong into a comfy middle class background, with Night Light and Twilight Velvet individually being at the upper and lower ends respectively. Night Light comes from a line of librarians, bookmakers, and merchants from a farflung land of Equestria, who moved to Canterlot about 3 centuries ago and assimilated into society. One of his ancestors was a bat unicorn, Nichtlicht, who married merchant Evening Spice to protect himself. Meanwhile, Velvet's family, which has all three races among its branches, is also from outside Canterlot, and technically originated from the land north of Night Light's family, but migrated to Canterlot as small-time nomads much earlier, about a millennia ago. They were among the ponies turned into bat ponies by Nightmare Moon, and lived life in the working class until fairly recently.
As adults, Twilight is tall and gangly, while Shining is beefy and stout, and Spike is chubby and soft. Sometimes Shining is more than a little concerned that both of his siblings will outlive him, as would his wife and kids, but then again not much is known about the Crystal Heart.
4) Celestia and Luna may not be ruling Equestria anymore, but they're still kicking around. As alicorns, they have extremely long, youthful lifespans, and it's likely that they are even immortal. They've retired to Silver Shoals, but they spend their summers in southwestern Equestria where they hailed from. Celestia's been married to one of the locals for a year, and is pestering Luna about that bat pegasus who's definitely not her lover, she swears.
As I mentioned before, Luna created the bat ponies. This actually happened because she was born one. Nobody at the time knew why, it just happened, though Twilight suspects that it was the result of a mutation, hence why it never showed up before Luna. When creating them, Luna (as Nightmare Moon) used her magic to copy the gene and splice it into her followers, though she didn't know how it worked at the time. The bat pegasi still swear loyalty to Luna, but are still on good terms with their unicorn and Earth pony counterparts.
Both princesses still advise Twilight from time to time, and plan to chill for another 1-200 years before moving elsewhere.
5) Here's Diamond Dust with her younger twin sibling, Needle Point. I changed it from "Needle Stitch" because I decided I liked "Needle Point" better. Children of Rarity and some random Crystal pony merchant, they live with their younger half-sister Velvet at Rarity's house. Both of them know Kili and Turquoise Wave (Yona x Sandbar), but Needle Point and Kili hate each other, mostly because of Kili trying to manipulate Needle's friend Nymphalis. Kili would apologize, but she's too stubborn and afraid to say so, and Needle Point keeps close with Nymphalis whenever they're together.
When people meet the twins, they see their icy exterior and automatically assume they're identical in personality. This could not be farther from the truth. Needle and Diamond are frosty, obviously, but they're still very different in how they present it. Diamond is theatrical, flamboyant, and bombastic, with a flair for the dramatic in anything she does. Needle is cold and cynical, who'd rather practice their fencing and singing than waste time on fluff. However, they're just as intense, hardworking, stubborn, and singlemindedly devoted as their twin sister, which is not a good thing to have when one has the same mentor as their biggest rival.
In addition, Needle also babysits Tourmaline (Sweetie Belle x Spike) and Tanzanite (Gabby x Spike). They don't admit it, but they have a soft spot for the little dweebs, even if they destroy their fencing equipment and paperwork. Even if they eat her music sheets and mistakenly send her private binders of smut to the Princess of Equestria. Diamond chips in, but she's very busy, and can't help all the time, even with her secret army of doppelgangers that not even Needle knows of.
Also, they don't remember that one time Diamond broke their nose and got her cutie mark.
Needle is nonbinary, and any pronouns work fine for them. Sometimes they prefer certain over others depending on the time, but as long as you don't refer to them as "it", you should be fine.
Edit: reworded some stuff for clarity
