T to B, L to R: Diamond Dust w/ normal shading, Diamond Dust w/ crystalline shading, Diamond Dust w/o shadingName: Diamond Dust

Parents: Rarity, unknown Crystal pony
Siblings: Needle Stitch, Velvet
Species: Pony/Crystal pony (unicorn)
Residence: Ponyville, Equestria
As a businessmare with stores in various parts of Equestria, including at least four major cities, Rarity travels a lot, especially in the early years of her business. At one point, Rarity took a train to the Crystal Empire for five days to consider extending her company here, and spent the nights touring with some local Crystal ponies as... "company". With big, glowing air quotes. Approximately 10 months later, Diamond Dust and her twin Needle Stitch were born. This repeated itself a year later, but in a weekend vacation to the Eastern parts of Equestria instead, and it produced Velvet.
Diamond Dust is the oldest of the three sisters, and evidently Rarity chose her name well. Cold, hardheaded, and aloof, this smiling young mare's proficiency with enchanting objects is inversely proportional to her gregariousness.
When she first earned her cutie mark, it was at the surprisingly early age of 7. Mostly foals get theirs at 10-13 years old, and Diamond doesn't quite remember what she was doing at the time because she was 7 years old and goofing off alone in the edge of the woods, recalling nothing except for getting yelled at by Rarity. After 3 years of trying and failing to figure out what her cutie mark is for, she turned 10 and she found out by sheer accident. She was fighting with Needle over over a toy in Rarity's backyard, and as he was taunting her, she accidentally enchanted to toy to break his nose, learning that day that her special talent is the ability to enchant objects with specific commands.
Ever since, Diamond keeps it a secret. She works as a jeweller, passes off her magical butt tatt as a jeweler's cutie mark, and works with Pear Cut (Big Mac's son and Rome's older brother) and Topaz (Ocellus and Smolder's daughter). The mare also babysits as a side job, usually falling back on her 8 years of watching Tourmaline (Spike and Sweetie Belle's daughter) and Tanzanite (Spike and Gabby's daughter). Diamond actually does a bunch of odd jobs, because her experience in fashion design is more specialized than what's needed to run the company. She also uses her object enchanting ability to create an army of doppelgangers from bricks scattered around town so she can work 4-7 different jobs without ever leaving her house. So far, nobody noticed how Diamond manages to walk from class, across the busiests parts of Ponyville, to the fast food restaurant on the opposite side of town, in 5 minutes, without getting noticed by a single person, every single day.
Diamond does not care if she's a bastard, or that her sisters and cousins are too. She's talented and hot, and that's all that matters to her. Velvet is another story, but big sister Diamond takes care to comfort her when she needs it. Anytime some bitch taunts Diamond for being illigitimate, Diamond reminds her that Rarity chose to keep her and her sisters, proving that at least Diamond knows for sure that Rarity loves her.
So far, the pony species divided into various subspecies, including the Equestrian ponies, crystal ponies, Saddle Arabian horses, and Eastern ponies. Crystal ponies originate in the far northern parts of Equestria, having evolved to tie their magic to the powerful Crystal Heart in a mutually beneficial relationship. The ponies power the Heart, and in turn the Heart protects them and provides shelter from the elements. Each subspecies of pony has its own ratio of Earth-pony: pegasus: unicorn in their population; Equestrian ponies have a ratio of roughly 42:33:25, give or take a few thousand, but crystal ponies have a ratio closer to 18:1:1, meaning that over 90% of the populace are Earth ponies. Diamond has visited the Crystal Empire, noting that while the Heart can give a crystalline appearance to any living creature, the only beings with a permanently sparkly, jewel-like appearance are crystal ponies and their descendants.
As a half-crystal pony, Diamond can suppress her crystalline sheen at will, but why would she, outside of keeping a low profile? It's so pretty...
