Description
I'm guessing dA isn't going to let me do my formatting properly, so I screenshotted the poem in Word and then made an image of it in Photoshop. Hopefully it's readable in one form or the other. Apologies if it's not.I was a bit inspired by ~sarjan 's poem Unconscious Debate , mostly because I liked the shape of the poem and thought it had been a long while since I'd written a concrete poem. This one started simply but quickly spiraled into something much larger than I thought it would be.
The three spires are intended to represent atheism, theism, and agnosticism, respectively. Hopefully everything else in the poem is self-evident.
Please, please let me know what you think.
edit: Uh, and thanks to whoever properly categorized it. I couldn't find any other place where I could display the image as my poem, so I just went with Visual Poetry... (Honestly, I'm kind of surprised there's no 'Concrete Poetry' form choice, but alas...)

You should give them a chance! There are a lot out there that put my work to shame. (But thank you regardless!)

i dont like how you used a cross to represent "theism".

Doesn't that mean they actually 'believe' in something? I know not all believers are Christian, but he needed something to represent them.

He could have simply made it in the shape of a mosque, as that's a common temple architecture for a number of religions.

I for one have no idea what that even looks like, but EVERYONE knows what a cross is. I think he chose right. Just a generic symbol for believers.

You're pretty ignorant if you do not know what a mosque looks like.

I live in Utah, I don't know if we even have any. XD I admit, I'm ignorant, but only in the sense of not knowing what it looks like.

No offense but it's honestly kind of beyond my comprehension that you've never seen a mosque before, whether IRL or in pictures. Didn't your school teach anything about religion in general?

They just don't have them where I am, or in any of the places I have lived. I did a Google search, and yes I've seen those buildings before. I learned world history, but I have never seen those in real life. I really don't belive that's generic enough for this person's purpose though. The focus is always on generic Christianity, and a cross is a perfect symbol for that. I agree with the creators choice still. If it offends you, it shouldn't. Even if it was a different symbol, I wouldn't be offended. No reason to be at all.
So yeah, I guess I'm not completely 'ignorant' as you assumed. And in high school (granted, this was like 8 years ago for me) we learned about some generic religion in history and humanities. I just don't care to memorize EVERY church out there. XD

"The focus is always on generic Christianity, and a cross is a perfect symbol for that."
The focus is not "generic Christianity", the focus is "theism". A cross does not represent "theism" any more than the Union Jack represents Japan.
I'm not offended, I'm pointing out the black-and-white-ness of this deviation.

Oh, my bad. I guess he just wanted to show that theism is some sort of belief in something, and he chose Christianity.
