I was wondering what if the read-along books and CDs had gotten the other animated films rather than just Disney treatment?
Well, this is that possibility with the Storyteller Cover Style of the latest DreamWorks Animation film, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, narrated by Ruby Gillman herself (voiced by Lana Condor).
Ruby's opening narration could be something like this, "Oh, Hey. I'm Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. You know? The ocean is a mysterious world. Humans know more about the surface of Mars than the floor of the ocean. And the sea creatures who live there? Well, even the ones you have imagined, you've imagined them wrong. Take the mighty giant Kraken like me, bloodthirsty monster, sinker of ships, drowner of sailors. Where do you even come up with that stuff? Krakens are actually majestic creatures and noble protectors. In fact, I come from a long line of Kraken, powerful warrior queens who have been protecting the world from the sea's most dangerous predator, the Mermaid. Despite what you've heard, mermaids are actually the mean girls of the sea. Vain and power-hungry they've been battling the Kraken for eons in a bid to rule the ocean. As a sea creature, fitting in at high school has been hard enough for me, but now I had to deal with limbs transforming into giant tentacles in the middle of study hall. To make matters worse, it turns out the super popular new girl, Chelsea, is secretly a Mermaid! She's come to land on a mission to befriend me so they can finally put an end to the mermaid/kraken conflict and just have fun! I found myself caught between my Grandmother, the Kraken Queen, who believes land is no place for a Kraken, and my mother, who wants me to avoid the ocean and resume my "normal" life of hiding on land. Oh, right, and a Mermaid bestie who wants me to embrace my powers for all the wrong reasons. However, when Chelsea double-crosses me on prom night, I needed to risk outing myself as a sea monster to defend my family and the community I have grown to love. Wanna hear how I started to GO BIG in front of everyone and proved that standing out is more powerful than fitting in? Well, you can do that by reading along with me in your book.
