What's on your mind when you are alone in the dark?Those who know me know how frustrated I get when I clean up all my work so that it's as smooth as a baby's butt. I hate it! I just can't stop! So this time I am gonna upload it a lil messy. I think it may be a lil dark...but that was the whole point of the drawing...Anyway...it's still not the effect I want...but hey...I'll get there one day!

very cool image. i like how it's dark, and the eye and face highlights. usually i'd suggest cropping out alot of the black area, but for some reason it tends to work well here...

Staring out from the dark with intense contemplation.
It says something when I'm seing the subject and not the painting. You got this one just right.

WHAT! never have I seen such a picture so.. hmm meaningful.. you named "alone in the dark"... which she is by the way... but also.. her hair for instances.. that is on her head blends in with the darkness around her... though I can distinguish the hair and the darkness.. yet they do blend.. hmmm... that could signify that darkness is all that is in her head.. so basically... she's alone in the dark.. ALL THE TIME!? maybe.. but just letting you know.. thats what I saw... hmm her eyes.. what color are they.. greyish it looks to me... maybe because of the light that is shined on them.. could that also signify the darkness in her.. also pertaining to the fact that darkness is all that she really is in.. even in light.. because darkness is what runs inside her.. through her blood.. through her thoughts.. through her soul even.. hmm I guess this is what I mean by meaningful art.. and maybe your intentions of her colors were not meant to pertain to darkness.. maybe you did that because of the darkness around her.. so maybe by instinct.. your intentions of darkness laid far beyond by what the obvious elements are here.. (her being in the dark...) hmm also.. I do like the blending of dark shadows.. how they make her REALLY seem like she lays withing darkness... also.. the way she stares at something.. the light maybe... to me she looks all depressed.. or maybe worried... yet she looks at the light.. hmm the way the light shines on her fingersa nd some areas of the face signified that... so maybe.. in here "dark state" there could lie.. some ray of light... some ray of hope I mean... maybe she is Pandora.. maybe.. because in your description it said that what are you thinking about when you lay in darkness... hmm not just in your head maybe.. but also in a sea of despair.. a sea of troubled times... and that among all the vastness of her chaotic suuroundings.. lay this uplifting ray of hope... well I'm off.. and you think that description is long?... it was maybe.. till I came along and wrote out crap that came in to my mind.. as I sat here.. in my room.. late at night.. in the darkness...

Gah, the shading is good. And it should be dark since your idea is to convey the emotions that come with being alone in the dark. Definitely a favorite of mine.

all the black really gives you the feel of solitude, aloneness
and gives the viewer the sad emotion and makes you feel for her

Don't think this one is too dark, it's just a bit blurry, but the dark tone is perfect the way it is. Nice effect how she hides behind the soft shadows and how the light from the right illuminates her surface. Has something mysterious and fearing. Especially her gloomy eye is well worked out. It supports the impression that she's in a very thoughtful mood. Really a good piece.

I love the expression here - like a cross between suspicion and anger
I don't think it looks as 'rough' as you say. To me it looks like something done in rally fine oils (if thats possible). Its really detailed, and incredibly dark.

By god, I saw this in my devwatch and thought it was a photo; figured I'd check later, and seeing it on the daily top deviations, I figured it was about time.

I love the whole shape of the work and the actual woman, the painting, the hand... Her expression is so very real!
I really like the look in her eye and the reflection of some light that it seems she's staring, hesitantly into.

This is certainly a diversion from your normal work, yet still as good, doesn't always have to be polished work for people to appreciate it, as you're finding out, the emotions in this are very powerful, a perfect expression and the light in this has been captured very well.

That's so beautiful. Shee looks so scared, yet so accepting of whatever situation she's in. The parts that you have "cleaned up" make it look so muhc better. They add a whole new perspective on the picture. She's hiding from something, and she's not clean, she's been hurt inside.
I love her eye. It's just an eye but it carries so much emotion! If it wasn't for that eye, it would simply be a masterpiece of vk, but that eye's made it sooo much more emotive.
No one but you could make so much black empty space work so well. Vk, maybe you should try make a blank frame and just put your name at the bottom, I'm sure it would hit daily fav in seconds!
