Wow, so much to say here. This is simply beautiful, a lovely vision of the hope that is ever present in life. This is what I see. While on the surface everything appears rather bleak, if you look beneath, there is that ray of hope, waiting to be sprung, to wrap itself in its comforting embrace. I adore the rich colors of this, as well as the wonderful texture and the play of the light about her extended hand. To me it seems to say, there's always a light in the midst of the darkness, there's always hope if you just open your heart and soul to it. It's there, the delicate petals of the bright side of life, simply waiting to be tended to, nurtured and encouraged to grow. A most beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing it.

The border? Just kept increasing the canvas size and changing the background color from black to white to black again. Thanks for the comment! I wanted her to appear buried in the earth, thus the disappearing hands and feet.

This is just a great example of how a really good image can illustrate a theme. Everything here works so well; from the filtering used on the two distinct sections of the background to the contrast of the subject against the bg to the placement of her hand and surrounding brush work. Each element has its purpose and each supports every other part.
Might be going out on a linb here, but in terms of technique, theme and overall aesthetic punch this may be your best to date.
