Overview:
The design team working on House Marik’s Project Retread selected the Guillotine GLT-4L and 5M as their first assignment. The GLT-4L was a 3025-era design and the GLT-5M first manufactured in 3050. Neither was suitable for front-line assignment in 3060, and both existed in fair numbers (about 350 units total, the bulk of these being 5M variants). The design team finally settled on the GLT-5M, as replacing the 4L’s standard chassis with Endo Steel was beyond the Project’s scope.
Capabilities:
Upgrading the GLT-5M to the proposed 7M standard involved removing the majority of the weapons, all of the heat sinks and substituting more advanced models. Four Medium lasers were replaced by Extended Range models. The twenty-five Single Heat Sinks were dropped in favor of thirteen Double Heat Sinks, freeing up several tons and much internal space. This was put to good use with the installation of a Light Gauss Rifle supplied with sixteen ferro-nickel slugs. Finally, the SRM-6 Short Range Missile Launcher was replaced by an SRM-4 with twenty-five rounds in the ammo bin, the idea being to give the 7M greater independence from supply lines.
Armor remains the same at a respectable twelve tons of Standard plate, 88% of the maximum allowed for the Guillotine’s 70-ton chassis. The stock Extended Range Large Laser remains in place; coupled with the Light Gauss, it gives the GLT-7M decent long-range firepower while producing manageable amounts of heat. For short ranges the ER Medium lasers provide enough firepower to keep smaller opponents at bay, as well as presenting a serious threat to infantry of all kinds. The GLT-7M is very mobile for its weight class, boasting four jump jets and a top speed of nearly 65 kph. The Upgrade ensures this veteran will ‘run cool’ in urban settings with minimal heat management while still providing good long-range fire support.
Battle History:
The Guillotine GLT-7M has already seen action on the Capellan Border in 3062. Operating in lance strength, elements of the Oriente 3rd Hussars were observed maneuvering in support of a drive on a major city on the border world of Les Halles. As Capellan forces had entrenched themselves in the city proper, it fell to the 3rd Hussars to enter the city and dig out what defenders remained after the initial artillery barrage. Video recordings of this action show Guillotines lofting up over the buildings in the city’s outlying district, hammering away at the defenders with their battery of lasers.
After-action reports indicate that two lances comprised mostly of these refurbished ‘Mechs cleared nearly 40% of House Liao’s infantry force from the city. This concerted, highly mobile attack forced the invading Capellans to withdraw, retreating northward and eventually off-planet. A word of caution; in the one or two instances where a GLT-7M encountered a ‘Mech of its own weight class, the Guillotine clearly came off as second-best. Only the use of standard fusion engines kept these battered machines from being written off as a complete loss.
Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
Petra ‘Rolling’ Boyle
A member of the Oriente 3rd Hussars, LT(sg) Boyle is a mechwarrior noted for occasional bursts of anger on the battlefield. This temper nearly proved her undoing during the initial assault of an urban center located on Les Halles. In accordance with the strict discipline for which the 3rd Hussars are famous, LT(sg) Boyle and her lance of Guillotine GLT-7Ms stayed back and hammered their Capellan opponents with long range fire until a freak shot from an enemy ER PPC struck her cockpit and nearly killed her.
Her lancemates later reported a scream of fury on the commnet as the enraged Boyle broke ranks and charged the offender, a Capellan Cataphract CTF-3L. The ensuing melee proved disastrous for Boyle; while she hammered the Liao ‘Mech as she approached, the enemy pilot was just as effective in returning fire. Closing with her foe turned out to be a mistake, despite their identical tonnage. Lt(sg) Boyle might have used her four ER medium lasers to win a stand-off fight. But the Cataphract’s MASC-augmented speed was an even match for this hot-headed pilot’s jump jets as the two mechwarriors fought furiously for position. Seven minutes into the fight, the Capellan gained the upper hand. Using his LBX ‘shotgun’ and four medium pulse lasers, he made short work of Boyle’s reconditioned Guillotine. Only the arrival of her lancemates and their combined fire saved Boyle from certain destruction.
Future deployments will certainly take this duel into account. Meanwhile, while LT(sg) Boyle has been decorated for bravery on the battlefield, several of her lancemates have been heard to remark that, far from being a hero, Boyle should count herself lucky to be alive. During the Les Halles action, at least two of House Liao’s ‘Mechs were observed to be a recent (and far more deadly) Cataphract variant, the CTF-4L.

Cool! Looks great but again.. you've got the gun cut off in the right. That is the only drawback to this awesome deviation.

Damn paper, always cutting things off...
Extreme firepower; nearly double at close range (but then it suffers some heat problems, that is, if you go to heavy on the lasers). My only problem is that it doesn't have the "feel" of the original.
Persoanlly, I wouldn't have the Endo Steel. That way, the FWL could have taken the original chassis and just modified them. From there, I would have probably used a standard Gauss Rifle...but then it's not FWL...grrrr...can't decide.
Ah well. All that matters is that I like it, and think it does it's job well.

can you please tell me what was the feel of the original? Besides original Guillotine had Endo Steel. I simply added double heat sinks and new weaponry - a tech bay refit

Well, the original originally served for supporting Griffin's, but at the end of the Star League it served as a raider; aka short range weapons and jump jets. You got the latter but not the former
Remember that the orignal was commissioned in 2499; and according to my handy Techmanual, long before Endo Steel was made. So, any endo steel used in the internal structure would be much later (also DHS); and would require much more than a simple tech shed (remember that it needs a zero-g environment).
Of course, my problem was only fluff-based; the 'mech itself is nice (if not only serviceable in the FWL). I just find it a little hard to believe, outside of the succession wars (where any working weapon goes) that an old design like this would suddenly have a huge change in general role.

i just skimmed through tro 2750 and it did show guillotine with Endo Steel. I also read its fluff and it said that it operated in lances with griffin providing heavy firepower (not exactly the same thing as support).
In the end of SL it was relegated as raider after the assault mechs became available. It stated twice in the fluff that Guillotine's relegation was due to its lack in firepower when compared to other heavy and assault mechs.
I took the same 2750 chassis and added new heat sinks and armament to create an updated version that doesn't violate anything 'historicaly' when it comes to equipment.
I don't really know what tech manual says since i don't own it, but in TRO 2750 it is listed as having Endo Steel.

My thought was that since any Guillotine's that haven't left on the Exodus had eventually switched back to Standard Internal Structure instead of Endo Steel. My only gripe was that the succession wars would have changed/destroyed any Guillotines with ES before your variant came into production.
EDIT: Awww, damn. I lost part of this "BT geek" headbutt: I misread Techamnual; the Terran Hedgemony developed ES in 2487

yes, but then how would you explain mass produced guillotines featured in tro 3050? those did have endo steel.

Ummm...foolish waste of resources?
I think it was the Inner Sphere's philoshiphy at the time of "Lets see how much advanced crap we can jam into this thing!"
Seriously. 25 Single Heat Sinks, when you have ES...?
What the hell?

actually 25 signle heat sinks and endo steel was present in star league version as well

But with the Star League, it's believeable, as they "test" newer technologies to small extents i.e. only having a few pieces of advanced tech on a single chassis. But even still, wit hall the tonnage they could save if they just switched the 25 HS to 13 DHS boggles my mind.

same with 3050 IS. Remember the 3050 panther? ER PPC and 13 single heat sinks? Randall explained that one that DC did not have single heat sinks during 3049/3050 time span. Same can be said about re-made guillotune
