Description 100 years had passed since Thành Tông Reformation, in 1660 the United Empire had become an unchallenged powerhouse, not even northern nomads could give them a meaningful battle. While not following the Western trend of colonization other lands, the Empire did trade with a lot of factions, learning things left and right and did their best to improve themselves, not lagging behind in the technological and arms race against Gaian countries. With their industry and magic foundation, the Imperial Army was able to keep a professional standing army around 2 million personnel (not counting corpse demons), and armed them to teeth. As the Army's main bulk was conscripts (though Imperial "conscripts" were on a whole different levels to standard levies), it reflected the Empire's  economy at the time as they could arm and maintain such a military with weapons and armors usually reserved only to professional and elite units.

Imperial conscripts of the time were issued these things:
  • 1 Thiên Trường Type 1656 "bird gun" smoothbore, muzzle-loading flintlock musket.
  • 1 bayonet.
  • 1 military axe.
  • 1 belt with predetermined gunpowder to reload musket.
  • 1 ammo pouche with bullets and even more gunpowder.
  • 1 first-aid bag (can also bring some random food and water canteen).
  • 1 set of enchanted military armor, includes:
    • Nón cối mortar helmet, the Empire's trademark helmet up until present. However, old mortar helmets had a speartip as they were expected to be used as a last-ditch effort to kill the enemy. The sides and back were protected by steel chainmail.
    • Water ripple steel cuiraiss, 10 mm thick. It is something the United Empire had used for a very long time, originated from corpse demons' cataphract armor, used to protect the torso and shoulders. Its vertical strips were for decoration only.
    • Lamellar "longcoat" armor made from water ripple steel lamellae. It has a layer of leather underneath to increase protection. The lamellar armor was worn under cuiraiss and reached pass the knees, protecting most of the wearer's lower body.
    • Longsleeve chainmailm another thing the Empire inherited from U Minh. It served as the last line of protection, covered places like neck (not so much) and armpits, as well as a bit more armor for groin and thighs.
    • Upper arm armors, vambraces and greaves, all were made from water ripple steel.
  • Personal belongings:
    • 2 sets of standard uniform, worn in bases or military reviews.
    • 2 sets of field uniforms, worn in drills, practices and long marches. This is the type of uniform worn underneath armors during combat.
    • 2 sets of "informal uniforms" for other peace-time activities.
    • 2 towels.
    • A blanket, double as tent when camping outside.
    • A sedge mat.
    • A pillow.
    • A small bowl, a pair of chopsticks and a gourd canteen.

If you lost any of the personal belongings, you had to buy it back. But if you lost your weapon or armor... worst-case scennario, say hello to the court martial.

At this point of history, the Empire had thrown away almost all "cold" weapons like spears, halberd, poleaxes, bows and crossbows. Only very specific units had them, such as magazine guards, who were not allowed to carry guns for obvious reasons... not like it worked when anybody could cast a fireball, but hey, so did guards and their water streams. The Empire had so many guns they could, on paper at least, arm each conscript soldier with 4 muskets and still had spares to give 3 guns to a militia. They were entirely gun-centric, fought in 3-line formations of rotating fire, and when the order was given, would fix bayonet and charge. Magics added to the equation meant that a lot of things could, and did, go wild. Like how they enchanted their armors to be more durable, muskets to shoot farther, more accurate, or just outright mixed Divaenium, the bullshit magic ore that is responsible for 99,99% bullshits happening in FP, with blackpowder and saw musket balls kill a bear. Imperial guns were forged using water ripple steel, or to put it simply, Damascus steel. They had high-quality ores lying around, an advanced industry, a centralized bureaucracy and money to throw around, no reason to not mass producing something far superior to old matchlock muskets.

Trivia:

  • Unlike the historical Vietnam (and most fanntasy Sinosphere countries), the United Empire had used plate armors and chainmails en masse for a very long time. Their cuirasses were indigenous products.

  • Chainmails are still used in the UE as of now (1923) as a form of fashion or, in case of hunters and forest guards, actual armors. Though forest and border guards wear them under their bulletproof vests.

  • Personal belongings are based on my experiences as a conscrpit in VN army. Lost a towel and had to buy it back gaian, bye bye my 50000 VND.
