Description Taking a break from my usual bit, my submission for the contest at: www.youtube.com/channel/UClfEh…

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earth 2100. After several large scale disasters and conflicts, new states formed with old states and a strange new power dynamic was formed between the five great powers.

The Pirates' Tribal Thalassocracy is a pariah state, funded and maintained mainly through piracy, mercernary work, extortion and occasionally deliveries. Divided into four territories, they descend from same of the former Great Powers, now having adapted to a more tribal and primal style of living. Sailing and piracy is considered the lifeblood of states and most of people's trades affect the industry either directly (timber, blacksmithing, mining) to more indirect means (writing to provide comfort on long voyages or propaganda), pirates are the decadant royals of this Great Game, either on captured ships or their own built. Indigenous peoples are the most successful in this form of living, with the Long House State being the most powerful. While they tend to compete and backstab each other at a regular basis, they will unite against other powers. Consisting of a warped fusion of libretarianism and tribal chiefdoms, freedom is valued above all else with loyalty to the crew and the code being close seconds. You are free to do what you want, but what goes around comes around. Saavy?

United World Industries is a technological marvel straight out of cyberpunk, having been formed by the world's richest and most influential individuals around the time of the collaspe, they fled to Europe, specifically what was once Germany. Through the use of remaining connection and the promise of security and supplies to a chaos-ravaged world, they quickly grew to become arguably the most influential power in the world. The company logo is proudly presented in many of the products that the people live in. Best described as a collection of corporate republics merging to become a superpower, they bring to mind the main infamous companies of past times. Here, neoliberalism and consumerism rule in this strange form of the spectacle and capitalism. People are pressured to exploit themselves and the struggle to find meaning is neverending, filled with new products. However, the UWI likes to back up the little guys in order to help keep up morale while also exploiting their own creativity. They are in for the long-term profit and are smarter (and even a bit kinder) than the robber baron of yesteryear. The UWI is divided into the global headquarters, client states and lastly dependent states. Raw materials or products or even services are sold all over and in one way or another, you work for them. Do what you can and you get your cookie at the end of the day.

The Oceanic Technocratic Federation is the closest to how life was before the collaspe. Rather than focus on capital, they focus on advancement. To them, the greatest contributions are through the mind. The only power meeting if not possibly exceeding the UWI, technical experts are considered the final word here.  Scientists, engineers and technologists are the key respected figures and everyone strives to be a renaissance person. While they maintain aspects like an economy and a culture, everything is driven for the sake of science and progress. The arts are not ignored though, but it can be difficult being an artist sometimes though the Federation does maintain welfare. The culture is a strange amaglation and the language was reconstructed from the various core states, assosiate states and obersrving territories in regards to an alphabet. For the most part, they are interested in rebuilding from the past while taming the wildlands into places habitable for human usage. While spirituality is not frowned upon, the technocracy places value on being the best on your merit. It's an ambitious life where you can bring out your talents in a post cyberpunk home.

The Coalition of Transhuman Territories is strange. While a hodgepodge of tribal confederacies, kingdoms, domains, republics and whatnot, what they have in common is that they are the result of science going beyond and the Singularity having happened. People have upgraded themselves and experimented on themselves in various ways. Proudly showing off their tribal mark of a Double-Helix, these people are still somewhat human, but some don't look like it. From bionic limbs to infusing themselves with animal or plant cells, it is the realm of the strange and wonderful here. While there are tribal disputes alongside with the struggle against the harsh environments, it is still a varied life. If you are willing to go beyond what you are, lose yourself on the way here. People here tend to work all over the spectrum though the places are becoming stranger, especially through the fusions of nanotechnology, plants and human biology. Tolerance and a love for the strange is needed here.

The Global Social Democracies of New Eden is a green haven of acceptance and spirituality. If the OTF is post cyberpunk, then New Eden would be solar punk. Focused on craftmanship, community and sustainable technology, New Eden took the longest to develop, but when they formed, it was a sight to behold. An  egalitarian environment, the social democracies were made in mind for the hope of a better future and progressivism. The New Eden social democracies tend to be organized by the quantity of technology and when they joined in, but the standard of living in all of them is quite high. Their symbol was one drawn from the inspiration of the arts and rperesents them as a whole. Regardless, they still work actively in maintaining th environment and moving forward while also maintaining the responsabilities they have as a large power. Dedication to peace and prosperity, the hope of the future remains alive and well with New Eden.

If you had to chose one of these five states to live in, which one would be your choice?

New Eden for sure. It's alot of green tech mixed in with ruralness and charm. In essence, you'd go there for relaxing area. Whether to be farming, crafting or working in one of the big cities, its a comfortable place.

Second place would be the OTF. More sciencey and hustle n bustle of the big city, especially when it comes to scientific sort of tech. It probably be where people in general would go to lvie in regards to familairty.

Transhuman ?

Like weird human species from speculative evolution ?

Transhumanism deals with humans augmenting their bodies to improve them. This is usually in the form of mechanical/technological upgrades, such as bionic limbs, artificial organs, mechanical implants, etc. It can also deal with rewriting our genetic code to make us stronger, faster, and smarter. Maybe you want claws or gils, maybe you want nigh-perfect night vision, or be able to photosynthesize like a plant, and possibly something far stranger.

No problem, transhumanism's one of my favorite concepts to explore in sci-fi. Hell, I'm writing a novel about this kind of stuff. Although, it would more accurately be... transsapientism (or something along those lines), as there are alien species involved in my novel as well, but it would be interesting to see how concepts like this would effect them as well.

Awesome; that's interesting. Especially thinking about how it accepted by other humans; as well as other scientists as etchical or Unethical

Oh, totally, especially if, say, one alien species needed technology to even survive off-world, as they would be nothing more than a pile of gelatinous bio matter if they weren't contained in a special suit off-world.

I was actually describing an alien race I created (don't know why I didn't name them) but that actually does fit.

You know; Combine Advisors from Half-Life series confirmed to be ''Started'' as almost human-like/Humanoid; but traveling between immense space like Other Solar systems/Galaxies/Dimensions/Universes & the help of the immmense technology (and a dash of pshyic evolved brain powers) made them look like... well; slugs

I mean its kinda very sad; I really could understand the rage Combine Advisors went through; All the advancement, Conquering, Powers... Result ? An almost pathetic life form...

Let me try to compose the chain of events that created this world. I have realized that the POD might be as well in 2000s, but still:
* Tesla received proper funding, patented his inventions, and was more alert about Edison.
* One of the major backers for his technologies were the Central Powers. Eventually, Tesla moved to German Empire, which was one of the factors in the victory of Central Powers in WWI.
* Russian Empire is divided into lots of states. Siberia, an Asia-oriented democratic republic, and Crimea, an unstable nationalist dictatorship, are independent of German interests.
* USA is subject to a worse Great Depression.
* Two movements in Central Europe become popular: one of industrial technocracy and another of unity. However, it doesn't become very popular with Italy, France, Great Britain and Greece, which lost the war. A similar technocratic movement is popularized in China, Japan, Siberia and Australia (both of which went independent after WWI). The corporations use these movements and Tesla's tech to capitalize on.
* As USA begins to fall, native American and other secessionist movements pop up. USA becomes a dictatorship under the control of the military. The World War II begins, with *fascist USA, American puppets, Turkey, Crimea (under a White movement fascist dictatorship) and West Europe on one side and the German-aligned world on the other. Guess who won.
* One young corporation becomes highly influential after using the World Wireless System to great effect. It shall be labeled Wireless Industries Inc. (WII) for the rest of the timeline.
* After the (fairly short) World War II, USA and their allies' economies collapse, dominated by warlord states, secessionist movements and various buffers estabilished by the victorious powers and corporations, including WII. As their weak governments meet their fall, the street folk become pirates and their clients to make a living. Soon, even government officials become weaker than pirates, who start to practically own the coasts. In order to fight off nations and corporations, these pirates establish a loose confederation.
* Eventually WII becomes the strongest corporation in the world, even having a lot of territories. It becomes extremely influental in Mitteleuropa, with many rich men on their side. Eventually WII take absolute control of the World System and, after the Collapse, of Mitteleuropa and their allies.
* The Collapse occurs. An event even worse than the Great Depression, it nearly breaks the World Wireless System and brings down the last nation-states in the world. People realize that nationalism is pointless, and unity is far more important.
* The states of the Pacific, which came out out of the Collapse a bit better than most (not that's saying much), are sweeped by a technocratic movement that unites the Pacific.
* Several territories, which have been used by an influental, yet nutty alliance of scientists, are unified by a transhumanist movement under the premise that the old, decadent nation-states must be abolished and man must change his form to develop.
* Likewise, certain territories, after the destruction of the nation-states that lived on them, were unified by a social democratic green movement. As they weren't unified by a corporation or an influental group of scientists and didn't band together out of fear, their formation took longer.

I didn't give admittingly much thought to how everything went nutburgers, but I figure it would be interesting also to leave it up to ya'll. There were nationalist native american movements that expanded to inculude disenfranchised minorities (like the romani) along with corporations becoming more powerful as part of it.

I should note that I have seen these symbols in metalheadjohn's scenario: metalheadjohn.deviantart.com/a…

1. What is the ethnic composition of these nations?
2. How many World Wars were there?
3. Was Tesla involved in the creation of the Coalition and the UWI?
4. Are these Great Powers that gave way to PTT Ottoman Empire, Spain, United States of America and Britain?
5. Are some of the "people" in CTT literally sapient masses of flesh, plants and metal with eyes?
6. Are there animal-like people in CTT?
7. How did Bolivia become part of the Coalition?
8. What's with the white borders of the Coalition?
9. Are Burma, Thailand and Indochina cilent states of New Eden?
10. What do the different shades of color in different states mean?
11. What scenarios are you going to do next?

Void-Wolf In reply to InfernoMole [2016-06-14 17:43:06 +0000 UTC]

Well, it was part of a contest in terms of symbol usage and this is how I used them.

1- Depends on where you are at though it is somewhat like how it is now, but with more diversity and interesting mixes.

2- two like ours. No official World War III

3- No, but a clone of his was. The split if you will occurs in the near future.

4- No, more like the current powers of today along with a few wild cards.

5- Well they have human shapes, but may have green blood or moss growing on them or metal parts and such, but they still walk, talk and act like humans.

6- As of yet, probably not. No chimeras yet...

7- It's where most of them were shipped to and they eventually took over and called it home.

8- subsections between them, functioning as sub-states.

9- they are part of the New Eden Collective, but on the lower end of tech (which is still a lot better and cleaner than what we have now. Agarian based for the most part)

10- depends for which one and I described them a bit in the descriptions.

11- finishing up the Mirror World War II before doing Mirror Cold War

This quite an interesting scenario. What is the technology like in this world?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Void-Wolf In reply to Twiggierjet [2016-06-14 15:36:27 +0000 UTC]

Depends where you are at. Both the UWI and OTF have high levels of technology mixed in with different levels of aesthetics, due to one being consumer-based and the other being science-based. New Eden follows closely after having stong renewable tech and mixed it with the old ways. At the lowest end, they would be somewhat like the Amish with a bit higher homemade technology and at the highest, would be sleek yet ergonmic and mixed in with the style. The PTT is closest to modern tech though some manage to steal higher-end ships while the Coalition is all over the place, but also the highest tech at heart due to the singulariuty, it's that mos of the technology has mixed in with them and is becoming also wetware.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Twiggierjet In reply to Void-Wolf [2016-06-15 15:55:35 +0000 UTC]

How much independence do the various internal states have withing the OTF, Transhuman Territories and New Eden? Also, what are the diplomatic relations like between the non-pariah powers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Void-Wolf In reply to Twiggierjet [2016-06-15 21:05:34 +0000 UTC]

With the OTF, it's like being part of the British Commonwealth though the role of Britain here is played by Korea and assisted by Japan and China, both of whom have gotten Korean influence over the years. Within the Territories, its a Confederation of sorts, only meeting up eveyr so often to ensure everyone is doing all right. As with New Eden, its a matter of respecting everyone's culture and working together so it's really nice.

The OTF and New Eden have the closest relations out of everyone followed by New Eden and the Territories. The Pirates aren't liked by anyone, but they technically do business with the UWI and vice versa. UWI is tolerated by the OTF and disliked by both New Eden and the Territories. UWI see the Territories as opportunities to capaitlize on them, but also promote a fear of them.
