and here's a lil comic for the Transformation Contest, featuring my draphibi, Shale

Shale was always a timid little critter, spending his days gathering random knick-knacks and shiny things. One day he went to explore an old shipwreck by the coast, and found a small glowing gemstone. He took it back to add to his growing collection where it quickly became his most prized possession. Unbeknownst to Shale, the peculiar gemstone was a forgotten and very powerful artifact, but he didn't know any better. It was shiny, and that was all he cared for.

Soon explorers and treasure hunters came seeking this relic; however, Shale was small and stubborn, and could run away and hide from the pesky intruders. This went on for a long time, until one day Shale had nowhere else to run. Terrified and cornered, he could think of nothing else to do to protect his treasure. So, in the last effort, he ate it. At that moment, the old magic stored in the stone was released, melding with Shale's small frame, and transforming him into something enormous.

The intruders ran off in fear, and when they came back later with bigger force in tow, Shale was nowhere to be found.

With the magic never leaving Shale's body, he learned to induce his transformation by consuming minerals as fuel; random rocks being least efficient, and gemstones being the most efficient. When this "fuel" runs out, Shale goes back to his regular draphibi form. Even though the magic is powered by minerals, it is still very taxing on the body. Shale has to eat a lot of food to compensate for the expended energy, and sleep whenever he can.

Shale still loves collecting shiny things, and while he is definitely not malicious, he doesn't mind stealing things he deems worthy to be part of his collection. This new ability helped him amass quite a horde, but he quickly had to learn that others would go to great lengths in protecting and retrieving their possessions.
