Phasssseee twoooo!!
I've been super excited to draw the prompts in this phase!

As for the story: Now we see a little bit of what Zorro is thinking...Oh, ignore the first part. It's just me fantasizing over snow because I have yet another snowless winter and snow deficiency is hitting hard. XD

Inspiration: For phase two teams are climbing steep mountain ridges and passing some forest areas. The weather was said to be snowy, and limiting the view a little. Sky and her phase two horse are taking on those challenges.

Along a trail overlooking the Austrian Alps, a beautiful view of countless snow blanketed mountains could be seen. In some areas, this picturesque view would mingle with the dense pine tree forest. Their needles kindly provided rest for the passengers of the silvery snow clouds roaming overhead. The cold air nourished the flakes and the snowfall generously caked the ground in gratitude. Long winding seams in the snow could be seen going along the sides of one of the ridge’s trails. These seams were tracks made by a familiar horse and rider team competing in the renowned TWD endurance race. News of Sky, and Kite the rescue pony seemed to spark interest to those keeping tabs on the race back home in Narrow Mountain. Now in phase two of the race she, and her mount, Zorro, were nearing their next destination, Obertauern.

The team made their way up the ridge, but Sky showed signs that she was not in the right mind to navigate it any further. Zorro worked out that her rider was frightened by the view straight down to the earth below. It was a little scary even for her, but the narrow ledge they were currently on was not the best place to catch a breath. Unless Sky could continue guiding them, they would be stuck on the side of the ledge for longer than they’d like.

"Okay, we're coming up to a-a fork...in the trail. We need. to go... um. I can’t look!" Sky said and quickly covered her eyes with her hands. Zorro looked toward the path up ahead and saw a blue ribbon next to the trail on their left side. Zorro payed very close attention to a lot of things on their way up. She noticed they only followed trails that had a blue marker beside them. If there were none in sight, Sky would lead them down a different path. If she was correct, the trail they should take next to get off the ledge, would be the one on the left. Zorro wanted badly for Sky to open her eyes, spot the marker, and lead them down it. But by the looks of things, that would be no time soon.

"I thought I had enough exposure to handle this part of the race, but I don't think I can make it all the way." It became apparent that waiting for her rider's input on directions would not be the best course of action. As much as she didn't like it, Zorro had to make preparations to navigate the terrain on her own. Zorro walked forward towards the marker and slowly climbed up the steep ledge. Sky leaned forward and Zorro was able to hoist the both of them over. They were finally off the ledge, but the view straight down was still visible. Zorro glared through the falling snow and spotted another marker off in the distance. She followed the trail that was closest to it, and it led her to another marker, then another. After some distance was covered, their surroundings started gradually changing in appearance. The view to the ground below was blocked by mountainsides. The steep ridge was now relatively flat. There were even a few of those human dens called Houses scattered around this area. Everything suggested that this place was safe.

Zorro stopped walking and waited for Sky to dismount. Oddly enough she received a few taps on her belly suggesting she should move forward. "We can't stop here, we have to keep moving." Sky’s face was still covered, so Zorro figured she believed they were still in the same scary spot from before. Well, they weren’t but Zorro had to find out how to let Sky know that. Zorro remembered that stomping her hooves seemed to always catch Sky's attention when she wanted her to hurry up with her dinner. Maybe stomping would catch her attention here, and make her look around. Zorro halted, swung her leg forward and repeatedly trampled the snow under her. She could feel the weight on her back shifting slightly in response.

“Obertauern? We’re in Obertauern?! Zorro could hear coming from her rider. It appears the stomping was a success! “But the map said we were still some distance away. How did we get here?” Zorro swung her head around to greet Sky, thankful that she was sounding a lot better than before. “You followed the markers?” Sky asked looking at her and reaching toward her mouth. Zorro had forgotten about the trail marker she had hanging from her mouth. It seemed like a good idea at the time to bring one along with them just in case they got lost. After all, those markers seemed skilled at knowing which direction to go.

Sky dismounted and gave Zorro a pat. “You’re a smart girl! Thanks for getting us out of there. I thought I would have had to retire from the race if I couldn’t make it all the way through the mountains. You’ll make the person who is destined to adopt you very happy, I’m sure!” Zorro was glad that they were off that scary ledge also. Being in charge was neat and all but she liked it better when there were instructions to follow. “Alright, let’s go. We’d better turn this marker in before we get in trouble!” Sky laughed, as they walked nearer to the checkpoint.
