Description
Pattern test for the new basic foal pattern - it's pretty much the same thing as the regular pattern, but with different proportions. Smaller body, shorter legs and muzzle, bigger head. I might finish her off as a Lyra, if I have time.Related content

Is this material Fleece?Β I recently started making these but with the fleece it is hard because it stretches a lot.

Yes - I use lightweight fusible interfacing on the back to keep it from stretching. Makes drawing the pattern on the fabric easier, too.

It hadn't occurred to me. I sell stuff occasionally and I'd like to write a book some day, but I don't make a living off sewing. I just give the patterns out because I know how frustrating it is to want to make something and not have an idea how to start.Β

If you don't mind my asking... how do you go about making patterns? I love to make plushies and I would love to make my sister a dead pool one but I don't even know where to begin on making a pattern. Β Is there a site online that shows how?

Voodoo-Tiki In reply to crisco19 [2013-08-31 08:21:42 +0000 UTC]
It's a complicated process - it took me years to teach myself (I'm actually writing a book about how to design patterns, but it will be a while before I finish). The only site I know that has ideas about pattern design is this blog:Β whileshenaps.typepad.com/ The author also recently published a book, but I haven't read it yet. If it's similar to her blog, it should be quite good, though.
Your best bet if you've never done it before is to find a pattern similar to what you want to make and modify it. There are a bunch of patterns here on DA at and patterns online collected here:Β pattern-depot.deviantart.com/aβ¦

I have the book, and it is not as good as her blog. The book does not even explain how to make a head gusset, which is a fundamental for plushies.Β The blog has pictures that shows you how to design, but the book does not.Β I would not recommend this book to a person that wants to learn how to design stuffed animals.Β I would only recommend this book to a person that does not want to learn how to make plush patterns.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely take a look at the sites you mentioned. Β I've modified a couple of patterns before I just can't seem to find one that fits what I want to make. Β But I'll take a look at the pattern depot I haven't looked there yet. Β Thanks again! ^_^Β
P.S. Can't wait to see the book you are working on.

and the body I'm not worried about but I don't know what I would do with the head. I was thinking maybe some type of elongated baseball type head but I don't think that would work out very well.
