Description Georgia headed to Calculus class, unsure if Mr. Torrick would let her stay in character or force her to reveal the truth to everyone.  Slipping in quietly while he was looking away, she sat near the back.

Mr. Torrick started by firing up the overhead projector at the front of the classroom. He already had the screen lowered and began to write various equations as the students filtered in and took their seats. The chair next to her desk scooted back with a bit of a scraping noise, startling her a bit, as she turned to see Peter sitting down next to her.

“Wow!  You look even better than you did during lunch!  Teresa really knows how to doll you up!” Peter quipped, chuckling to himself at the knowledge of Georgia’s real identity. “You gonna keep playing this off until the end of school today? I mean, I’m cool with keeping the secret and all until then. It’ll be funny to see how many other dudes fall for it, given how I did and all.”

Georgia glanced around nervously at the rest of the class to see if anyone might have heard Peter.  Luckily, the lights were low and the projector would blind anyone in near the front of class.

“Dude, keep it down,” she hissed back at him.  Peter may have been Ray’s best friend, but he was a bit of a loudmouth.

“Yes, I’m trying to keep it up all day and you’re gonna blow my cover.  So ‘shhh,’” she said, putting a finger to her lips and then zipping them shut.

Peter just smirked and nodded as he turned his attention back toward the front of the classroom, where the equations on the overhead projector were finished.  Mr. Torrick usually called on people to the front of the class at random to solve for the equations above.  Georgia noticed him looking right at her and pointing at her.

“Miss … um … I’m sorry, I forget your name. Would you care to solve the first equation up here for me?” he asked bluntly.

Peter just chuckled to himself as now the entire class was focusing on Georgia.

Georgia swallowed but obediently stood.  “Yes, sir,” she said, mincing to the front of the room.

She focused on the equation and tried not to think of everyone watching her.  Thankfully, she was a whiz at math and solved the problem easily.  Without a word, she headed back to her desk, paying careful attention to her walking and hoping no one looked too hard at her face.

She felt the eyes of everyone staring at her, some trying to look closely to see who she really was, others not even looking at her face.  As she sat back down on her desk, she saw Peter just struggling to keep himself from laughing at the situation.  He was clearly having way too much fun at Georgia being put on display like that so suddenly.

“Very good.  Next up, you,” Mr. Torrick said, pointing to a student who was still staring at Georgia.

“Huh? Oh yeah. Right. Uh…” the boy said, standing up nervously and heading up to the front, now feeling the same pressure on him.

Georgia stifled a laugh herself, giving Peter a smack on the arm once everyone turned back to the front of the class.  “Dork,” she whispered.

“Everyone feels like that with this guy, you know that. He has a way of putting people on the spot,” Peter said, jotting some notes down as another student was called up for the next problem.

“So, uh, how has it been going so far?  With your costume I mean,” he asked a bit nervously.

“Pretty well.  Fooled nearly everyone so far.  Even had a bit of ‘girl talk’ with someone.  But still, looking forward to getting these things off my chest,” she whispered back.  They were getting to be a bit of a pain in the back.  On one hand she wished he didn’t have to remove them, but on the other she was glad she could.

“Getting a lot of attention?” he asked, nodding toward some of the other classmates who were glancing at her direction, specifically to her chest.

She shrugged.  “A lot of glances, yes.”

“I’m surprised nobody has tried to ask you out yet, looking like that.” he joked a bit.

Georgia scowled at the comment.  “Oh, don’t be ... Ridiculous,” she said, slowing at the thought.  The thought of someone asking her out was actually exciting.  But did she really want to spend that much time dressed up like this?  Did she really want to go out in public beyond the safety of Halloween like this?  She certainly didn’t find any guys attractive, but just being asked would be a wonderful boost to her ego.

“I mean ... Maybe I’m just not as convincing as I thought.  Maybe everyone knows and they’re just playing along because it’s Halloween?  Ask me out ... Ha,” she pretended to scoff.

“Maybe.  Maybe they’re just too nervous to ask a pretty lady out,” he joked again.

Just then, a note was slipped onto Georgia’s desk. The girl sitting in front of her nodded to the other side of the classroom at a boy who was glancing over in Georgia’s direction anxiously. She looked down at the note and saw it was folded up. The teacher apparently hadn’t noticed it’s delivery through the classroom as he called up another student to the front.

Georgia had been smirking at Peter when the note arrived and looked up at the girl in surprise.  Glancing at the boy, she picked up the note and tried to quietly open it, checking to see if the teacher had noticed.  She was already getting an excited tingle up her spine to think of what might be in it.

The note read as follows:

‘I think you’re really pretty. If it’s okay with you, I would like to see you after class. Do you have a boyfriend?’

It was rather neatly written for a boy’s handwriting. Either the boy is compulsive about neatness, or he put a lot of care and attention into this note.

Georgia blinked and read the note twice.  She blushed and glanced up at Peter.  Then she looked back at the boy who was still watching her eagerly.  He wasn’t ugly, but he was a guy.

Georgia coughed to hide her embarrassment and slipped the note into the back of her book, turning back to the board and trying not to look at the boy.  She would speak to him after class and just have to let him down gently.  But how?  She glanced again at Peter.

Pulling out her cell phone, she texted him a quick message.

she sent, figuring once he glanced at her she could show him the note and motion to the boy for clarity.

However, Peter’s phone was not on vibrate and chimed out with the theme to Knight Rider, pulling everyone’s attention, especially Mr. Torrick.

The glare Peter received from Mr. Torrick was most intense. If it was one thing he did not like, it was cellphones disrupting his class. Many students have been sent to the principal’s office for such offenses, and it looked like Peter was to be no exception.

“Mr. Wilson!  I believe my policy regarding cell phones in my class is more than clear. You can spend the rest of class in the principal’s office,” he said, pointing toward the door.

Peter’s face turned beet red as he collected his books and walked out of the classroom, everyone staring silently at him the whole time.  Georgia gave him a little shrug of apology as he left.

“The rest of you can now take this pop quiz on the material we were just reviewing,.” Mr. Torrick said.

He collected a large pile of papers and handing them to the students in the front row to pass back. It looked to be several pages long.

Georgia was the last in her row, so she had a moment to put her phone on silent in case Peter texted back.  When she got her test, she set to it, blowing through most of the material and only struggling near the end.

The class was dead silent the whole period. Twenty minutes passed with everyone putting pencil to paper. Mr. Torrick was quite strict about showing your work, so that just made the ten-page test take that much longer for most.

Georgia managed to finish it with time to spare. The clock dragged it’s way toward the end of the class, and just five minutes before the bell rang, Mr. Torrick stood up from his desk.

“Okay, time’s up. Pass your tests to the front of the class, please,” he stated.

Georgia passed up her test and patiently waited for class to end.  She hoped Peter would be waiting nearby so she could wave off her new suitor.  Or if she was lucky, just avoid him all together and get to her last class of the day.

Thankfully the boy who wrote the note wasn’t in the same row as her, otherwise it would make for a rather awkward scene if he happened to catch her real name at the top of her test. The bell finally rang as the tests were collected. Georgia watched the boy get up and collect his books, glancing occasionally over at her.

Georgia tried not to look like she was glancing at him as she slowly collected her things and hung back so she’d be one of the last to leave the class.  Maybe this would give Pete time to get back here and help her out.  She clutched her books to her chest nervously as she eventually left the room.

The boy did not seem to be following her.  Maybe he got the hint when she walked by without making eye contact or saying anything that she wasn’t interested.  In any event, it was a lucky break in what could have just been another awkward scenario.

Peter was not in the hall.  Hurrying down the hall, she had to get to her locker and get her books for the last class of the day: Economics.  Georgia just had to get through this and the day would be over.
