Description      Mary Beth was definitely lost.  She figured she'd be fine as long as she had a GPS with her.  Of course, recharging it before she left might have been a good idea.  She was in the middle of the forest with little sense of direction and no cell phone coverage.
She came out into a clearing and could see that the sun was getting lower.  Soon it would be dark, and she'd need to make shelter or something.  But this was just supposed to be a day hike, and she hadn't brought a sleeping bag or tent.
Sitting on a recently fallen tree, she pinched her eyes together and groaned.
'She has come!  Just like the prophecy said,' she heard someone say.  Standing and looking around, she didn't see any people.
"Hello?!" she called, her voice echoing off the trees.
'Hello, seedling,' the vaporous voice returned.  It sounded like the rustling of leaves.
"Seedling?  Where are you?" she asked.  Several voices chuckled.
'We are all around you, seedling.  You will see better once you're roots grow in.'
"My roots?  What are you ..." Mary Beth started to say, but then a stiff wind whipped around her and she staggered a bit.
Suddenly, she found her feet somehow stuck to the ground. Looking down, she saw her shoes had turned brown and were growing tentacles that burrowed into the ground.  Holding up her hands, leaf buds were forming on her fingertips while her hands and arms turned brown and wrinkly.  Feeling a strange rustling above her, she looked up and saw what seemed to be leaf-covered branches growing from her head.
"What's going on!" she shouted, her voice becoming hoarse and strained.  Her fingers began to elongate inconsistently and she felt compelled to hold her arms out to her sides and stand up straight. Her feet and legs thickened and fused together, forming a single round base.  Her bellybutton got hard and grew into a knot the size of a CD.
'Quiet now, seedling.  Relax and listen to the wind,' the voices said calmly.
Mary Beth tried to respond, but her voice was gone and her face seemed to harden with her mouth open.  Her arms and fingers continued to grow out and up as her head became a full lush mass of branches and leaves.  Soon her whole body was covered in bark, leaving only the vague notion of her face on her trunk.
Fully transformed, she had no choice now but to relax in the wind and listen.

I like this story too you should make it longer! Are the other trees evil or good? It's hard to tell!

Glad you liked it, and that's an excellent point. It's not really a good or evil kind of thing. They see a need and opportunity and they use it. I may extend it a bit.

Thanks! Yes, Nature Spirits indeed. They saw a lost soul that could help fill the gap left by their fallen brother tree.

While overall I enjoyed this story and think you have a great concept, the tense in your first sentence (your 'hook') is a little unclear, because you're using the past tense but you say 'now' which implies immediacy.
