Description
Sizes of parts are not to scale. It is only a general scheme. Yep, I'm shit at drawing things. Also, this ship uses Medusa Drive instead of more traditional Orion. I've based this design (with rigging ring) on this video .1 - Propulsion bus.
- Nuclear reactor block.
- Cargo block.
- Workshop block, for making spare parts as required.
- Small craft docking block (2 landing ships for science missions and 10 space pods for repairs and general ship maintenance activity).
- Habitation block (two contra-rotating sets of habitation modules, command center and zero-g lab).
- Communications block.
- Sail.
- Sail attachment tethers.
- Rigging ring.
- Drive bomb launcher.
- Attitude thruster blocks.
- Drive bomb magazines.
- Nuclear fission reactor.
- Liquid hydrogen tank (for attitude thrusters and emergency reactor cooling).
- Primary radiators (foldable, folded on the picture).
- Secondary covers, which protect the landing craft, space pod bays and, as a shadow shield, habitation block against radiation. They are encircling this block like the ring and can be opened/closed in order to allow spacecraft to pass. They can also be easily removed.
- "Victoria"-type landing craft.
- Side docking block for the space pods (5 pods in block, 10 pods total).
- Habitation block's main hub. Houses command center, zero-g labs and multipurpose chambers, as well as the blocks of the life support system and emergency power storage.
- Habitation block's radiators (foldable, unfolded on the picture).
- Contra-rotating centrifugal gravity habitation pods. Can be stopped and folded along the ship's thrust axis for periods of acceleration/deceleration.
- Communication block's radiators (foldable, unfolded on the picture).
- Communication block's equimpent module.
- Communication block's main dish.
The caravel is modular in nature, hence the division into blocks. If required, blocks can separate from eachother. It comes nice for equipping it on the "Core-Dock" station, where the tugs can just replace the required block with a new one, while driving the previous to the repair/refill.
The main purpose of those caravels are expeditions to the outer planets. The first caravel of this class, named "Curiosity", ventured to the Saturn's moons - specifically, the Titan.
