Ive always wondered if it 's possible to use the little rods and melt the faces of it to have it look smooth so you don't see the holes.

It is possible just over melt it on one side and it closes the holes

I'm not sure what you mean by little rods, me and cousin made alot of perler bead art. But ironing till there is no holes gives it overcooked look especially when you look the the sides. Sometimes makes the pixels bleed into another. granted we never made any 3D.

overcooked is only if you have the heat to high.
