Description And so, here it finally is! Lo, after these many long months, I hath finally...
Well, no, that's a lie.  The truth is I just have a lot of projects to finish and images for DeviantArt is just one of them.
Anyway, onto the picture:
As many who may read these descriptive paragraphs (or novels, as the case may be), might know, I am not a big fan of the TV show "Enterprise".  Aside from any quality issues of the show itself, my main gripe is how I cannot see it fitting into the timeline (and don't get me started on "Discovery").  That is where this picture comes in.  It insinuates that the NX-01 would fit perfectly into a different timeline/universe.  At one point, I even wrote a story in which the Temporal Cold War itself created this very alternate timeline.
One of the things that confused me was the designation of "NX-Class".  What was that about? Is it an experimental class, or did they just use NX because the "X" makes everything sound cooler? And since when is a class named after a ship's registry?
As you can probably see, I "corrected" that by insinuating that NX-Class stood for experimental, and the second the additional hull was added, it became a "Columbia-Class".  Why Columbia?  Well it seems pretty obvious that the naming of the NX-Class ships is based on the NASA space shuttle program.  The only problem is that the Enterprise was only a test vehicle.  It never actually flew in space.  So, if we're following that, then the actual class name (after it passed the experimental stage) would be based on the "first" ship; the Columbia.  Make sense?  Good, because I think I just confused myself.
Anyway, I used the "official" upgrade by Doug Drexler for the aforementioned "Columbia-Class", which didn't occur until the Founding of the Federation.
The one above it is based on a fan design that omitted the catamaran hulls (or at least the "arms") which could've been seen as unnecessary, after a fashion.
After that, we have what I considered another problem.  If the NX-01 Enterprise was so well-known in its time, then how was it so easily forgotten by the time of the later shows?  Why is it never seen nor mentioned?  But that's another discussion for another time.  My real problem is this: if it was so influential, then why did they wait almost a century before naming another Enterprise?  There should've been at least one other ship, right?  This was not only the first Starfleet vessel to apparently explore beyond the Sol system, but got a lot of other "firsts" under its belt.  Kirk's Enterprise achieved comparable feats, and Starfleet had no problem putting out a second, third, fourth, fifth, etc., ship! So why not the NX-01?
Again, that is where this chart comes in.  And yes, I got a bit carried away putting out three (3) Enterprises.  It was supposed to only be two (2) ships, initially, but the gap between the Concordia and the Constitution (at least as far as size was concerned) was too great.  And appearance-wise, the Constantine-Class looks like a more logical step between the two.
The names were chosen out of a desire to be more original, since apparently others have designed Enterprise-Era variants of the Constitution-Class and used various names.
The Constitution-Class redesign was done on purpose, since I do not believe the NX-01 fits visually with the TOS-Era Enterprise.  Even (or I should say "especially") after seeing "In a Mirror, Darkly" with an unaltered USS Defiant, the two ships seemed to stand out in stark contrast to each other.
I couldn't find who designed the original I based it on, but I altered the appearance of the ship so drastically, that I would think it counts as an original design.  Personally, I like it much better than the other design.
And yes, for those who look closely enough, I did modify the NCC-1701-A.  It's very subtle, but I flipped the edges of the saucer rim. Why?  Because the NX-01 had the slanted-down look reminiscent of the Excelsior and Ambassador class designs.  Since I'd carried that on throughout my own fanon lineage, I decided to simply stick with it all the way through.
So, there you go.
Personally, my favorite is the redesigned Constitution-Class.
My least favorite is the Constantine-Class.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but something just looks off about it.
