Description
This is a knife I made for my portfolio review. I did quite a number of things differently in this project, and made a display box specifically for it as well.I used brass for the blade, which was interesting to work with because it is known to be a softer metal and cannot be hardened by heat-treatment, however it does work harden. Fortunately I had the patience to do so until it became hard as steel.
Purple heart is the lovely hardwood used for the handles and was pain-stakingly sculpted to this streamlined form. The handle scales were then subjected to a deluge of tung oil and smoothed through the grits of sandpaper up to 2500 before finishing with a light buffing wheel and oxide compound. The brass cutlery rivets were new as well and presented new challenges and possibilities.

I hadn't thought of selling it, meant it just for display. But I suppose I could make a duplicate if you like. Would you want any modifications to the materials?
