You know what I'm wondering about?
Lately I see a lot of people leaving Scratch that, I see people "leave dA" all the time.
And then they say they are gonna move to FurAffinity/Anipan/Nabyn/ whatever the heck else there is. Because dA isn't fun, there's too much drama, they hate the people, their art doesn't get enough attention, they miss "the old dA".
But
- if everyone is going to move onto other sites like that, doesn't that mean that sooner or later the very same drama will come back on another site somehow? Most of the people that left or want to leave have contributed to some kind of drama at some point. Running away isn't going to help.
- dA isn't fun? Possibly, but I've seen other people come back to dA because on other sites, there isn't just that much to look at/to do. dA has way more users (thus more activity) than most sites, so you might get bored on other sites more often (which is why I'm inactive on FurAffinity).
Besides, lots of the people who are leaving are also people who like to fancy up their pages with backgrounds and features and dolls and stuff. dA has by far the best customization options, even if you have no Premium Membership.
There's so many extra features that have little to do with art for non-premium members already, and even more if you do have a PM (and it's not THAT hard to get a PM, you don't even NEED real money!) you won't find most things like that on other sites. dA itself doesn't suck, they're trying really hard to improve it.
- if your art doesn't get attention on a big site like this, why do you think it will on another site? You can put stuff into groups here, which is still the best way to get others to look at it. If you want to move to another site because of this reason, pick a site that focuses on the kind of art you're making. (literature, animal art, artisan crafts, fan art, photography, ...)
- hate the people on here? Unwatch people who annoy you and try to make as little contact with them as possible. If everyone and literally everyone annoys you you might have some kind of tolerance problem there. Moving to another site might help for like, a few months, maybe a year, but eventually the same kinds of people always show up again.
- miss the "old dA"? In the beginning, everything is new, fresh and fun, you're getting to know people, etcetera. Awesome! But after some time things become "normal" and even "boring". That's life, get used to it. The main reason for why there was no drama at the beginning of your career was because you didn't watch quite as many people, and because some of them were new here too. On a new site, you won't have those problems in the beginning either but after some time you'll probably miss the way you felt about the site at first, too. But you won't get it back, and there's no way you can keep that happy feeling you have about a new site forever.
I respect people who leave no matter what their reasons are, of course there are good reasons to leave a site. But a lot of the people who claim to leave never do so or just come back and they do it over and over and over again. I don't even feel like commenting on "Leaving" journals anymore because I know they'll come back no matter what.
If you think dA is that bad, just leave it. Don't keep coming back if you hate it that much. Complaining about dA won't make this a better site

I agree with you 100%
Almost everyday I see journals pop up in my messages, saying that people are "Gonna leave DA, and probably the internet for this amount of time, probably forever, etc." when all they are doing is the exact same thing, complaining about certain subject on other websites, like furaffinity, tumblr, facebook, etc. when people realize there are so many features you can do here! and that's what I noticed too, that most people that are leaving have such colorful pages and customized journals and all that blinding stuff :Y I just moved accounts, that didn't mean I left da, I just thought people looked at me like "wtf is this girl complaining about" kind of stuff

Yep, indeed!
But oh well, people just don't think sometimes, they think it's dA's fault and that leaving will help when they are the problem x)
Glad you agree!

I completely agree. And to be honest i have been on Deviantart for almost five years now, and not once have i ever thought "i miss the old DA". To be honest i think its not DA thats changing, i think its the users that are changing. They want more than they are getting and that isnt the websites fault, thats their fault.

Indeed. The users are the ones complaining about stuff, before all those journals appeared I hadn't noticed anything wrong about dA

I was just reading your comment, and I think too, that it's not the site that's changing. I've been here for 3 years and I still love this site. If you look at Youtube and Facebook, now those are sites that have changed. Especially Youtube. Sure dA has updates, but I'm glad the layout of the site is still the same. dA Doesn't really change too much if you ask me.

Testify Beinie! Testify!
You make VERY Valid points.
If they don't get noticed much on one site, how will being new on another site make that better?
Also, If they dislike people, there is a "Block" Option on DA.
And your point on the "Old DA" Complaint is true. Change happens in the World all the time. If it didn't we'd still be Cavemen or having our Youths in Workhouses since they're Urchins on the Street. Heck, there probably wouldn't be a DA, since due to nothing changing, the Internet is never invented!
Agreed, Running away from anything that bugs you is silly and won't get one anywhere in the World! If anything, it causes more problems.
Doesn't it?

Very true It's not like running away will make a difference.
Indeed, changes might be hard to cope with at first but you can't deny some changes are good. Like the username chnging everyone was begging for, or the fact that non-Premium members can use thumbs in journls and on profile boxes.
Yes it does

Bravo!
I couldn't have worded it better myself.
It aggravates me especially when the people who cause the drama in the first place are the ones that leave and blame it on someone else.
"Oh i just cannot take the drama on this stupid site! Everyone is so immature!"
Really? Last time I checked YOU started the drama so doesn't that make you the immature one?
Like you said, even if you leave to a new site like Nabyn, sooner or later even nabyn will be the next DA. It's community will crumble and soon everyone will be divided into set groups; furry artists, anime artists.
It's how things work in large quantities.
And sooner or later, probably sooner, the site that they move too, someone is going to come along and say something that doesn't sit right with them and the whole drama stuff will start all over again.
I never find myself in drama situations here, I'm sure allot of us here do not.
The people that move who complain that their is too much drama on DA are most likely the ones that go seeking for it. Everyone gets bored I suppose, but they push the limit.
Anyway, yes I completely agree with everyone point made in this journal! At least its nice to know some people have common sense xDD
DA is really a great site when you really think about it. Sure its seems rough around the edges sometimes but really if you're nice to people and respect them, you'll get the respect back. If you stay away from drama, the drama will stay away from you. If you want people to notice your art more, then you're just looking for popularity (just my opinion) just leave it for a while, keep on at your art and soon people will notice you.
DA's a vicious circle you need to give to receive c:

Indeed! If you're always surrounded by drama then you're probably the one causing it, or the one adding fuel to the fire at least
If you're the problem then the drama and problems will always come back no matter where you go.
The key is not to get involved with other people's fights and to keep your mouth shut when you're supposed to. There's no reason to get involved most of the time.
Heh, glad you think so! c:
Yes, you just need to be patient if you want to get popular, and stay out of fights if you want no drama. x) That's the way it works on every art site, not just dA.

Well said, I agree completely.
the only type of leaving journals that I know could be serious is when people are trying to deal with real life issues like school or they cant afford internet anymore, in that case its a good idea to comment just to let the person know you'll be waiting for them when they get back ;o

Vuurstern In reply to Purrlstar [2012-10-13 16:38:43 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I don't mind when people are leaving because of real life, since there are priorities in life and they have to do what they want c:
But if it's just moving onto another art site for no good reason...

Bienieeeeeee you are so wise <3
I have said I miss the 'old dA', but that's cause I've been on this site for almost 6 years
As for drama.. I think it mostly depends on the kind of art you draw, or the "fandoms" you're in. Like on my old account I solely drew pokemon, and there was RARELY any drama. The worst thing to happen was when a person decided to 'break up' their fc couple with someone else. Cause people would cry/ask why you did it, but eventually people got over and moved on.
While SOOOOME FANDOMS.. or just.. groups of certain people... I'm not gonna get into it here cause this is your journal |D

Ff, thank you xD
Well, I sure do get nostalgic when I think of when I first joined x') But the site itself has greatly improved, they are trying their best to make it an enjoyable site.
Yeah, true xD Though it's not just about fandoms, people seem to make drama about everything - I watch quite a lot of people so there's some kind of fuss somewhere most of the time.
But yes, I get what you mean xD

Nemo-TV-Champion In reply to Vuurstern [2012-10-13 19:00:57 +0000 UTC]
Hehe that is true
I try not to watch too many cause I don't like getting flooded with messages. But I meant because like, lately a few people in a certain 'group' of fans in a certain fandom seem to have it out for me and a couple of my friends x.x

Well, you can trust that I won't be leaving dA XDD
Even if I join other websites. I only do that in case say my parents decide to ban me from dA >:3
And also to keep some art on other places of the interweb.
But yeah, this is 100% true... there's so many people leaving now that I just find it annoying, and then one day they'll end up back on here :/

Same here, I just don't find other sites as interesting xD I'm glad my parents wouldn't know how to keep me away from dA (they just keep me away from the computer instead )
Indeed, and only like, 5% actually leave. It's getting kind of tiring to keep track of all those journals when so many don't mean it anyway.

Best journal i have seen in a long time x) i agree with you 100% :b I got bored of da for a while, but that's because i wasn't even trying to make it fun, wasn't drawing, wasn't looking at other people's art. So i think if da gets boring, it's only because you're making it that way. But anyway great journal, i coulden't even be bothered to write that much xD
