Description
For the current prompt of Discreet, of Japur featuring Griwi 's Dia. This piece and story take place afterΒ this drawing here , it's basically a sequel.
Ever since that one night in which they had their first long, deep conversation, their meetings had become more frequent. Specifically, their meetings under the stars before they slept. It wasn't really something they planned or asked the other about. It just happened, and it was fine like that. Japur frequently found herself looking forward to those moments. She was happy to be in company of any kind, yes, but somehow, in those conversations she just felt... understood? More than usual, anyways. She couldn't explain why she felt this way. Maybe Dia just was good with other Minkin like that. Was it like that for all of Dia's friends? Japur sometimes wondered, but then shook the thought out of her head. It didn't matter. Other Minkin weren't Japur. It was irrelevant.
As time passed, the night were getting chillier. Japur slowly started to notice how she couldn't help shivering while waiting out in the dark looking up to the sky. The stars were beautiful, but man, a blanket of clouds in the sky sure helped keeping some warmth. Still, she did not want to quit her stargazing, even if there were warmer places to spend the night in. But no stargazing in the field meant no Dia, and she couldn't leave her friend hanging like that in the cold, now could she?
And so, that night, they laid there again. Japur surpressed a shiver and looked up, yawning. The stars were bright out there tonight. So distant, at the same time. And so cold. She thought she heard Dia shiver. "Cold?" Japur asked. Dia nodded silently. "Do you maybe want to find a warmer place?" Japur suggested. "No..." hesitated Dia, her gaze fixed upon the sky but with something in her expression that Japur couldn't quite place, "We"ll be fine, I believe." The pale-with-red Minkin surpressed another Shiver, and Japur instantly moved closer, offering a bit of body warmth. She felt Dia shift towards her too, then Dia's warm fur was pressed against Japur's. Warm. It felt nice. She heard Dia sigh, but it sounded content. There was a weird feeling in Japur she hadn't felt before. She was happy. What about? Just being here? There was something about this that was special, and new, and she could not quite remember feeling it before.
They talked a bit more, and then laid their heads down to sleep, still next to each other. Japur smiled in the dark, a smile no one would see, nor need to see. Suddenly she felt something shift next to her, and her heart made a little jump as she felt Dia lay her head on Japur's back. Japur laid there silently, too afraid to move, because she did not want to pop the bubble that was the tiny magic in this moment. One movement that would make Dia move back, and it would be over. Instead, she coiled her tail around Dia just a little bit tighter. She thought she could feel Dia smile for a moment, but she wasn't sure if that was imagination or not. All that she knew was that she hoped no other Minkin would come by. Why, actually? Surely no one would mind or care. But it would pop the bubble. End the moment. And some moments are just to be shared between two, discreetly. She was glad to be out here in the fields, where no one would need them or come by. They were alone. It somehow felt complete.
Japur did not stir until she saw the sky was lighting up as the sun was slowly rising. Had she really slept, or had it just been a vague blur or tired thoughts? She wasn't sure, but time seemed to have passed by so quickly. Dia's head was still resting on her, the Minkin close to her. Japur rose her head to admire the colours in the sky and inhale the scent of morning and, vaguely in the air around her, Dia.
It made her feel home somehow.
Aaaaand yep, Dia and Japur got together. Everyone and their dog saw it coming, except for me.
No really, for the longest time we decided not to, because it seemed so obvious, we're girlfriends, let's make our characters get together too!!1 So for quite a while they were nothing more than somewhat awkward friends. And then I was drawing that one piece of Japur laying down stargazing, and I wanted to add another Minkin, and Griwi really wanted it to be Dia, even if I was surprised at that because they weren't that close at that point. I wrote the story to go along with it, which made the characters get to know one another better, and since then it has been lingering unconsciously, with the icons and whatnot.
And then the contest stuff was announced, and I thought this prompt would be a good opportunity to get their relationship started before the actual contest
