I dub him Emo Two
Is it just me, or is he about as freakish as the MANTWO? Anyway, here he's conducting experiments on himself-- testing the limits of his brain. Or checking his emo levels. Or pondering whether to take a fuzzy MySpace photo under poor lighting whilst wearing heavy makeup and writing horrible depression poetry. Or something. You choose.Special thanks to ~Faulken because he was a pair of fresh eyes for me and helped me identify a couple of problems. Critique still gratefully accepted, although I mostly wish for the knowledgeable among you to lecture me on color... Although nothing will be edited further on this particular image, I'll use what I learn on the next pic.
I keep feeling as though I'm groping for some understanding of color... I just can BARELY see it, I ALMOST understand it, but like a word on the tip of my tongue, it never appears... It makes me so frustrated! X(
Oh, and before you purists comment
1. I know he doesn't look 100% like the official version
2. I don't care if you don't like that

This came out so well
I think you know most of my thoughts on it, but it is an excellent piece, rich in emotion and atmosphere from the style of the background (implies the intended setting so well). The background is really done quite beautifully by itself.
Proportions on Mewtwo are excellently done-all in all, just a really strong piece. Given a cartoony figure the sort of dark piece of fanart that was always required.
Your imaginings and visions of Mewtwo always intrigue me

A lot of the pokemon designs/pokedex back stories have a LOT of depth if you wanna scratch the surface. I would like to draw one with a lot of creative license taking some day. Which is very much what I feel you've done with Mewtwo and why I feel it's such an awesome original, yet true to the source piece.

I really like the colors. They fit the mood and the title very well. To be honest, this looks alot better than the original Mewtwo.

I really like his build, its very mewtwo-ish..yet not..I dunno..but I really like it! And the background...it gives you that 'oh boy I wonder what's in there >>;;' feeling that I rarely get in pictures.

Man, why can't Pokemon be as interesting as you make it out to be?! Because I'm just sick in the head, of course I went with "he's experimenting on himself" because that's so awesome creepy and it really fits the mood. This piece doesn't seem emo to me; it's got a sort of brooding anger to it.
Dang, I wish I could help you with colors, but colors and I are still trying to reconcile our differences (we had a falling out some years ago when I tried to color things on demand).

The muted colors really do look better here than the bright official ones would have. It gives the piece a much more serious attitude, as does your more realistic Mewtwo anatomy. I like how you kept some of his trademark physical traits, like the meaty "thunder thighs", but made him look a lot less awkward and more like a real creature.
I also like the effect of the backdrop, with the blackness seeming to drip upward! That's a mighty cool thing to do, makes a viewer stop and think. It's neat how it's seething around Mewtwo, as well, kind of framing him and bringing attention to him in combination with the nice highlighting on Mewtwo's body. The only thing is, it would look more like it was coming from him if licks of it wisped between his body and the viewer. Unless you wanted it to appear that it was merely behind. Either way, it looks good! The effect came off really well.

Thunder thighs ftw!
The pic didn't seem to ring correctly when I put clouds between the viewer and M2, so I just left it as was. More of a reflection of his mental state than what's really "there," you know.
