Hi there! I get a lot of questions everytime when I post a photo with bear Styopa. Yes, he's alive, his not drugged, his not abused, not any cruelty. He was born in zoo and was taken by enthusiasts and professional trainers when his mother abandoned him. Photo sessions with Styopa is strictly regulated, no more than 20-30 minutes, he is treated very carefully and with love. Styopa's owners are published posts and everyone can make sure that his contains in good conditions and his rights are not violated. Photo shooting are needed to pay for the maintenance and food for animals. Styopa 24 y.o he never lived in the wild and release his into the wild nature is impossible.

I would both be scared and excited to hug a bear his size. (The fear would be from being around a creature thats a lot bigger than myself.)
He seems like a pretty cool bear as long as he's feeling good and happy.

I don't know, but I have to think about that book "Ferdinand the Bull"...
His expression, and although seen from the side, is just as peaceful as Ferdinand's as seen in the Disney-adaption of the book.

What a story : I initially assumed it was a photo-manip, of course. Bless you, the brave and loving little girl, and his adopted parents !! I gather that this scene is from Russian folklore ; the Ojibwa tribe {I'm part native American}Β have a tale that this could depict ; I know it as "Grandfather Bear". I wonder if they have a common source, back in Asia ??Β Β Β

Even with the info in the description there's still danger. No matter how friendly they seem. Like when rocky the bear killed one of his trainers the element of risk is still there. Glad the bear is being well taken care of btw and personally I dont dissapprove of this stuff (specially with gorgeous pics like this) but I do worry since there have been cases of human raised and friendly animals accidentally killing, its just one of those unfortunate things that can and do happen.
