And no ! You're not alone to love Assassin's Creed AND Mass Effect!!! ME is my favorite game !!! and there's AC in the second place XD I loooove Commander Shepard ( Mr Shepard with a defauft face XD) and... my favorite character of ME who is not Shepard is thane !!!
And my favorite assassin... I hesitate between Edward and Altaïr x) But I love Ezio too !!!

BUT DUDE... I totally agree with you on ME and AC. I'd say I like AC better, but it was my first franchise that I followed actively. When I got my Xbox, I immediately bought the 4 games that were out, and I had played the DS games before, as well as the PSP game, Bloodlines XD
But Mass Effect. I played a custom Femshep, and I picked a weird class... I'm a Sentinel, and I honestly can not function properly playing as any other class. Ehehehe I romanced Kaidan and saved him on Virmire and I cheated on him and romanced Thane in ME2, because, Who could resist a Drell Assassin??? I mean... it was definitely a hard choice between Garrus and Thane, but in the end, when Thane dropped the "When no one else competes for your eyes, I'll be waiting" line and I was like... THANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. XD

I didn't play games of AC on DS or PSP ( I don't have a PSP and I don't know where is my DS... I lost it T_T) but I've almost all games on PC !!! I don't have AC liberation x)
And for Mass effect, I played a custom femshepard and I had same relationships with my characters XD Coincidence ? I don't know !!! But Garrus is ( to/for ?( I forgot) me) a friend. I couldn't have a romance with him XD Thane is mysterious... and nice... and... handsome for an alien XD And I'm often a soldier or... a "franc-tireur" ( haha a french word )... And I was (once) standard bearer. XD
