Looking over the objects laid before them, Nicolai felt most drawn to the rusted canister. They however recognised this to be a human object. Fear drove them to instead take to the object with the most alien aura: a dark, heavy, intensely green stone. Nic could feel the soul of the object calling out to them, beckoning them deep into the ocean, and they obliged.

They required the aid of their telekinesis to carry the stone as they swam. It was conveniently a downhill expedition, but the stone still had to stay above the sand and not snag. When the pair arrived at their destination, a vast bed of pillow basalt on the ocean floor, Nicolai discovered a fish bone in the crevace the serpentinite belonged in. They carefully swapped the two, and then inspected their (far less heavy) find: it was long and thin, with a plasticky feel to it. In their tiny grasp it was a crude facsimile of a rapier.

It also called out, urging Nic to return it to its home.

The octopus in the background and kina in the foreground reference a story my dad told me once. He was at the beach and saw a kina in the rock pools. He tried to pick it up, but when he did so, some tiny octopus tentacles came out from within the rock pool and grabbed onto the kina. This teeny little octopus had claimed this kina for itself and was not giving it up for anybody. Dad of course left the kina behind.
