I've got nothing against Spike, that's just how I thought the show staff was treating him at the time. In fact, its implied that they're the ones calling him names here as opposed to me.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this episode; where exactly did they portray Spike as an idiot or acting like a moron? Throughout the episode he was shown as pretty competent if not more so then most of the ponies around him. What happened to him was not a direct result of any of his actions or decisions, the pipe would have been fine if not struck, the trees would have been fine if not blasted, the polo players would have been fine if they weren't such a**holes. Now, you could argue that he indirectly contributed and thus it is completely his fault but remember that those three ponies (construction pony, tree trimming pony, and polo ponies) agreed with him. What happened was a series of misfortunes,not bungling, which could have befallen anyone who made the same choices.

I totally agree with you, but I would like to add one thing. Greed is built into his DNA. Therefore, he is prone to be power hungry. Him using his assistant status for personal gain was just the dragon greed talking. Yes, it's stupid, but in character.

Good point. It also doesn't help that no one ever seems to listen to him. I mean he has helped save Equestria on like 3 separate occasions, come on ponies show the dragon some respect XD

Spike didn't really do anything bad - he is an about 12 year old kid with a corresponding maturity level and did what can be expected from a 12 year old. The episode's problem (apart from the ridiculous amount of predictability) was that everypony else treated him as an adult. Plus, the whole event was really badly planned.
-Why was he even talking during the opening ceremony? Thet's kinda like a meet&greet with film stars... and then Angelina Jolies kid starts a speech. Kinda easy to predict that this is not what the people want.
-Why did Cadence task Spike alone with ensuring Twiligh's rest? They are in Canterlot, they have dozens of Royal Guards, so why not make a few of them guard Twilight?
-Why was there no spokespony or substitute for Twilight? Or at least a sign at the bottom of the stairs to Twilights chamber that reads "Princess Twilight is unavailable, please talk to another princess if you need any help"?
-Why did the landscaping occur on the day of the summit and not weeks before? Plus, really, dragon sneeze trees? Shouldn't you use some other trees in your capital's castle when one of your four princesses has a dragon assistant/surrogate family member?
-Why was there a seemingly unrelated polo game right outside the national summit?
I presume the episode's moral is supposed to be "don't let power go to your head", but all the desastrous things Spike unwittingly initiated (moving the polo game, stopping the water pipe's repair, stopping the cutting of the trees and even making the two delegates share the hall) were done before he started to abuse his power (which he did only after Cadence gave him the idea). So the only moral I see in this episode is "don't put a kid in charge".

Dragon Quest's writer is hopefully no longer allowed to write Spike. She portrays him as if he's half the fucking age he normally behaves.

Spike is dumber than a box of rocks though not quite as stupid as cross-eyed unreliable retard horse, I enjoy hating Spike.
My biggest complaint is not seeing Spike get severely punished for what he did.

Merriwether should not be allowed to write Spike unless she has a better writer breathing down her neck to make sure she has him behaving like a ten-year-old instead of the five-year-old she wants him to be.

I honestly think she's better than Neal Dusedau, plus I really enjoyed her episodes.

Neal Dusedau is the lesser of two evils. Merriwether has horrible, despicable, nonsensical lessons (Bats!), wastes plot devices that could have fueled fantastic stories, rather than the cheap and pointless things she writes (Spike at Your Service, Dragon Quest), and leaves gigantic plot holes in her scripts (everything).
At least Neal gives Spike a good personality and delivers a fun series of events. Merriwether can't even do that. She doesn't take the show or its characters seriously. She thinks she's just writing a dumb cartoon for kindergartners.

The end is much better on this one, please cover your mouth. But the script writer has other plans, that really hurt Spike.

The bad thing about this episode, was that Spike, who usually is a good
adviser of Twilight and a helpfull hoof in everything, was portrayed as
a guy that abuses power and a clutz.
Really, I feel like they gave each pony a nice episode, and here they go
