You must've watched the God-awful cut version. In the uncut version of the movie, Tim kills the Joker by shooting him with the "BANG!" dart gun, which is also how the Joker killed Bonk at the beginning of the moving. Unfortunately, they cut out nearly all the good fight scenes, violence and references to to the words "kill" or "death". I strongly urge all Batman fans out there to watch the uncut version! It makes so much more sense, damnit!

I saw the uncut version. Tim didn't kill him directly. The Joker was knocked back into some exposed electrical wire in the lab where he and Harley had transformed Drake.
