Description
My first pic of 2008!!!I just had this idea... When reading or watching a fantasy story, who would search, get and sell unusual itens for magic suppliers?
So, I just thought abut this character, hunting special itens to sell to magic itens shops.
Coincidentally, it is exactly the same situation of the Tooth Fairy Aprenttice I posted before

It's a good idea!
Just look at the AD&D books and see the item prices for things. (assuming characters need it but don't want to/have the time to adventure for it)
Then do about 1/3 that price. The guy owning the shop has to make ends meet after all. Compare the fees obtained to the "Cost of living" charts.
A "Magic Item Hunter" would probably get as rich as adventurers, more likely richer, with 1/2 the levels needed. They'd need extreme stealth, dodge, monster lore focus and so forth. But they wouldn't need to constantly buy better magical swords, replace armor, heal wounds as fast. Their equipment cost would be like a specialized thief. They'd also have better prestige, likely as a "Merchant" class variant, versus adventurers who are seen mostly as "Very dangerous loose cannons".
They'd face a few obstacles, though, to keep it from being a 'erfect' job;
1. Possible conflict with adventurers. They'd end up following them and looting the bodies of their kills once in a while. Dangerous as the adventurers might suspect them of being an 'enemy' chasing them. Financially dangerous as it could give them the same idea and then they'd glut the market with monster parts sold for a trifle versus hard bartered.
2. Fickle market. If one becomes perfect at say "Greater Naga Scales" perhaps by simple trade with said creature (livestock for castoff) they could glut that market and then be forced to learn another creature's ins and outs.
-Kind of like the Computer field then, constant change and upgrade to new platforms, then when a glutted one gets abandoned and neglected one has to dust off the brain cells for sudden demand.

Thanks a lot for the info!!!! I really didnΒ΄t knew about pratically everything you wrote!!
One of the inspirations for this, was a Discovery Channel program about mummies. In order to do a real mummy, the host traveled to Cairo, to a street market, where he searched and bought the "ingredients" to do it.
And, he just commented how that market had anything possible, and showed a box labelled "Flea hearts".
He just joked wondering who would by this, and who supplied it to the market...

Love the pic. One small crit: the tooth gets lost in it for me. Not until I read your description did it really stand out that she'd plucked the dragon's fang. Maybe I was distracted by the boobs.
Keep up the awesome work. You should post your process sometime. I really dig your blog, too.

Ah, yes... Originally, I would make the first plane much darker than the background, so it would make the tooth more visible. But, when dealing with ligths and shadows, I forgot about the tooth, and worried just in make her visible...

TSR that came out with a book called Glantri back in the late 80s that dealt with the whole magic supply trade. Also did Hoggworts year before it was Rowling's idea.
