Description
Edit: I KNOW there is a 3DS version of Generations, and that's cool, but NOT THE SAME. Was the DS version of Colors identical to the Wii version? No.Be warned, the paragraph after the comic description is me standing on a soap box.
Okay, I gotta admit, this comic is a manifestation of my nerd rage, but I always try to channel that kind of thing in a positive way. How can Sonic's 20th anniversary game not get a wii port?! Don't give me the hedgehog engine crap because a very minor graphical downgrade would allow it to run just fine, like Sonic Colors did. Think of this, there have been 11 Sonic games made exclusive for nintendo consoles (not counting re-releases of old games) which include pretty much all of the best reviewed and received. In that time there have been 4 games NOT made for nintendo consoles, the most prominent example being the now infamous "Sonic '06" which was made for Sonic's 15th anniversary. I can't believe Sonic Team would repeat that mistake from 5 years ago. I'm sure generations will be an awesome game, but people who own XBox's and PS3's probably won't be interested in it because they'll have memories of '06 and no particular attachment to Sonic, since it's not an FPS or gritty sandbox crime game. Wow this sounds so much like a fanboy rant, but is it so much to ask that I can count on a series to have all of it's games come out on one console, or at least be TRULY multi-platform?
I've noticed that people seem to have an unusually narrow definition of what a Sonic game is. I've received comments and arguments from people who say that games like Sonic Adventure, Black Knight, even Sonic colors aren't "true" Sonic games because only pure side scrolling platformers count. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP! I only ever hear this stupid argument coming from Sonic games, nobody ever claimed that Star Fox Adventure wasn't a Star Fox game, or Zelda 2 wasn't a Zelda game, or Paper Mario wasn't a Mario game...well I can go on and on about Metroid, resident evil, and a bunch of other series that make games in more than one basic genre. The fact is that every game Sonic stars in is a Sonic game, just as any other series is defined by its star.

Guess that's why Sonic 4's Sonic was the modern one... xD
Wii already has too many Sonic games compared to XBox and PS3, and until Generations is released, the best recent Sonic game is still the Wii exclusive Sonic Colors. Now it's fair for the HD consoles owners to have a piece of the cake.
And I believe Sega is doing better for Sonic than Nintendo did for Mario - they simply released the Mario All Stars SNES rom in a DVD for Wii!

heh, I get the "it's only fair" argument a lot. But you have to understand this isn't about what's fair, it's about what makes money and how the company philosophies match up. Sega and nintendo have been at odds in the past, but their way of doing business is actually pretty similar, Sony and Microsoft conduct business in a very different way, and that doesn't mesh well with Sega's beloved properties such as Sonic.
For example, Sega and Nintendo's best games are the ones that feature their beloved mascots, which are indelible parts of our childhood and endear themselves to today's children as well. What about Sony and Microsoft? Their best games are the ones that push graphics to the limit, and they seem to outright SHUN younger gamers, after all kids don't have any money. They're expensive, and few memorable characters emerge from them (Master Chief wasn't even IN the last 2 Halo games) There is the occasional gem like Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, but they are much fewer and far between, and their cast of mascots isn't as impressive when you consider the fact that the Playstation has been around since the mid 90's, they should have more characters synonymous with their systems by now.

I understand your point. But it looks like Sega sees the Wii as the "Game Gear" counterpart of Mega Drive back in 1991.
They released Sonic 1 on Mega Drive, and then released a totally different game with the same name for Game Gear - just like they did with Unleashed. Then, the GG got Sonic Chaos, Triple Trouble (like Sonic Colors on Wii) while Mega Drive got Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Generations on 360/PS3).
Back in 90's there were restritions that kept games from having the exact same aspects in both platforms. But now, there are several games that were released for all the 3 consoles and keept the same gameplay while having a major graphical boost on the HD consoles (even Sega had at least one - All Stars Racing). But Sega either thinks its better to have a different fandom in each platform, or they are too lazy to work on it for a "big" game such as Generations. My bets are on the second option.

I can explain why though, you see Nintendo's Wii can't handle the graphics without dumbing it down, also a wii 2 is rumored. LOL anyone who didn't live in the 90's won't get this.

It's pretty ironic how most of the cannon Sonic games after the Wii's release were out for the Wii. And Sonic 06 sucked and it wasn't for the Wii xD
This game has GOT to be good :> Or Sega's doomed.

Has anyone noticed that the level ideas for this game end at Sonic Adventure 2, the last game before Sega stopped releasing consoles and games for them and just went off of other companies' consoles to release their games.
Is it symbolic, coincidence or just because every game after SA2 stunk?

Every Sonic game ever has some basic plans, there will always be a pastoral beach or grassland, ancient ruins, industrial city, some flooded place, a frozen area, a giant carnival, a spaceport, and a few other stock locations. Not every game has all of them, but it is rare that you see something outside those parameters. It's sonic version of the megaman boss equation, where there will be a fire guy, a water guy, etc...

The Sonic Team of Japan has been noticing that their games have been very poor, so they are trying to focus more on solid game play these days rather than making their titles be mutliplatform. So, yeah, you can expect a lot more releases only for specific consoles. It's a sad price to pay, but if Sonic Colors is proof of what they are capable of, then it can't be avoided. I have a 360 and a Wii, so it doesn't hurt me too much. I'll only have to worry if they start making Sonic games for the PS3 only, but I don't think I have to worry about that. Usually, in these cases, the Sonic Team is developing games for the 360, but since the PS3 can do just as much and then some as the 360, it's easy to make a game like that a dual console release without having to do much adjusting. Believe me, I've asked the same questions before. I often wondered what it was about Black Knight or Secret Rings that didn't issue a 360 release, but I just gotta assume that they know what they are doing.

(Well, I do have a Playstation 3 (and Xbox 360, but I'm gonna sell it soon, so...), but I prefer playing Sonic games on the Wii... And when it comes to Wii or PS3, Wii is pretty much the only console I can play games on, as my big brothers are always playing some game on the PS3. )
Anyway, nice comic!

The problem is that it's become some so opinionated on what would Sonic (or Sega if you will) best fit in. And yeah, I find it kind of annoying all the nit-picking Sonic fans do in comparison to what Mario fans do. I'm not sure if my arguments would qualify as I've pretty much grew up with Mario and never was really into Sonic until pretty much when the Dreamcast died. XS

Nintendo is just under a year from releasing a new console that is more powerfu than the PS3 and he Xbox 360 so that is probably why Sonic generations is not in the wii. who knows, they might release sonic generations on the new console. Sega just didn't want to spoil the possible surprise.
