The Crystal Shard insidiously manipulates its wielder and would readily abandon him or her for someone more capable of furthering its goals of ultimate conquest. So, the shard, feeding upon his own self doubt and fear that he has wasted his life by honing his fighting skills while needlessly rejecting the company of friends, has driven him to recklessly challenge the enraged behemoth to prove his worth."
