now THAT's a sexy outfit
Don't like the background, but well, you had guessed that much ^^
Maybe too much contrast with the very pale skin

hey, then again, I didn't say I didn't like pale skin. Just the lighting on it and the black background are a bit too much for my taste.
I'm also sensitive to the skin cancer issue, being from Nice. Though I'm guessing we don't have that much problem, as we have mediterranean genes, not anglo saxons ones

Well, same around my place actually. Mediterraneans have a dark tone of skin. And well, brits are red like lobsters. Nice is one of the favourite destination of brits. Has been since victorian time at least. The queen went to nice almost every winter. She really like the place. And she liked to stroll along the sea. That's why the main avenue along the sea in Nice is famously called "la promenade des anglais"

Well I don't know, I just know that there are a LOT of them around Nice, and it's been happening for some time ^^
But it's true that there was a time (victorian) where most of the 'tourists' coming to Nice were english. Then there was the Russian period (Nicholas II) and now, well, a bit of everyone. A lot of english, Russians, Italians, Germans, Scandinavians, Americans as well, etc...

Well you know it's odd that one of the more popular TV shows last time I was in England was about stories and also helping Brits by houses in France...

oh yeah, I heard about that, brits buy houses all over the countries. Brits love France. They can, though, it's a magnificent country. In England there's a saying, I was told : "France is the most beautiful country on earth. Unfortunately, it's inhabited by the worst people on earth, the french."
Sigh... We're not very loved I'm afraid. Even you americans don't like us now (for very bad reasons, though).

I thought that was "Austria would be lovely if it weren't for the Austrians"
And governments aren't the people... although that is sad to say these days...

You say that because I'm saying americans don't like french? I certainly didn't think that because bush didn't like french. But from what I've heard, it's not just the government. Though actually, I don't care that much. Someone who would judge an entire population by general ideas (even if they're true, which is seldom the case) is of little interest to me anyway

I see it as four groups in France that have garnered opinions abroad both for good and for bad. This could be said with varying details about every country.
1. There is the actual French government that is in power and how other countries view their actions.
2. The self declared defenders of French culture have earned various reactions for their actions from Fast Food to use of English words in French.
3. Parisians are in a class of their own, usually a very superior and annoyed class of their own when it comes to tourists.. but then i know what it is like to have to deal with tourists quite often in a town you just want to live in.
4. The actual French people who on the whole have been quite wonderful in most every instance I have encountered them at home and abroad.

1. I won't get started on that, it'll piss me off.
2. I'm not sure what you mean
3. Well, again, general ideas. It's true most parisians are really badly behaved, particularly around tourists. Not all of them are, though. A lot, I'll agree. Though I wouldn't put it on having a lot of tourists around. I come from Nice, I've lived with tourists all my life, and people are not bitter like that in my hometown ^^. I guess it's actually a number of things. Parisians think highly of themselves, cause they live in Paris, well known center of France and hence of the world (I'm following their reasoning, not mine ). Also, living in Paris is pretty stressful, so people are easily annoyed. I guess sea, mountains and sun would explain why people are happier in my place
4.We're not all jackasses . From my experience here, it's really hard to describe french people. There are things that are common. But not the things english think or stuff like that. I've read in diagonal the books of stephen clarke (a year in the merde, etc.) and it's mostly bullshit
. What I like about this guy is how he says french are so full of themselves, think they're the best and judge everyone else, which pisses him off a bit. While he's not full of himself at all, doesn't think highly of himself and is CERTAINLY not judgemental
.
I think what you say is true for a lot of countries though. Like americans, that's a good example. I've never set foot in the US, but all the americans I've met were great, not at all like the image we can have. Then again, I guess travelling americans are maybe not the usual type, I dunno. And boy, your news... How do you expect people to take you seriously
To some extent, same is true with English, I guess. What's really fun about English is that they don't like how we are, when they're really just the same (except they don't have the good food and have to endure the crappy weather lol).

1. While I appreciate the diversity a parliamentary system can provide, the need for coalition governments and calling elections at random times always just confused me... what are ya'll on now, the 6th Republic in 200 years?
2. You know exactly what I mean, it's ok for Americans to call a souffle a souffle but god forbid the French use an English word in their vocabulary. I love the English language for that fact. Or as Eddy Peters once said “Not only does the English Language borrow words from other languages, it sometimes chases them down dark alleys, hits them over the head, and goes through their pockets”.
3. I agree
4. Well to be honest, sometimes the French can be well, French. Just like the Germans like to celebrate with a world war. And it's amazing to realize the Italians use to be well known for their discipline and engineering.
