Weird is right - I dream about places like this all the time.

it is a waste water filtering system. the material would be pumped done the center of the tube and then the heavy materials would stay at the bottom and the then the water would flow off the the top surface on the other side. any coal mines, nuclear plants, military?

Me and a friend stared at it for a long time. My friend recognized it, just didn't put together it's importance or purpose.
Another friend suggested that it was indeed water filtration. Old water filtration systems...
The water would get to a high point that it would go down the tube.
Even that is still odd though... There's no body of water around?
Interesting though. I love old and abandon places. It makes you wonder.

Sounds like water cleansing. There are usually more than one.
Its like filtration, you don't want your very fine filters being broken by big elements, so you first use a wide filter and then get finer.
This filters are usually in some distant to a town but near a river or something, you pump the water from the town to the cleansing, do your cleanup and let the now clean water into the river.
