Unlike the more common Sea kelpie, the pygmy kelpie lives in freshwater streams and lakes. also differnet from theirr larger, sea-dwelling cousins is the pygmy's temperment. Shy and timid, these docile creatures will hide frm almost any animal that comes to the waters edge. whereas the sea kelpies are totally bound to the oceans, these smaller relatives are amphibious. the fore-limbs are used primarily for movement across land, when in the water they are tucked up against the chest as the kelpie moves with surprising speed with large beats of it's hind-feet and tail. Pygmy kelpies feed mostly on water weeds, but will also resort to eating grass if no other food source is available.average height: 2'3"

Okay, this is absolutley adorable. It seems like kelpies don't get enough love, and while I favor the people-eating horses, this is really really cute. ^ ^

The kelpie is one of my favorite creatures...and this one is so much cuter than it's more common relative. I totally love it! You did a fantastic job! I've had the hardest time finding any good art involving kelpies (not really my forte, although i'm working on it...I'm more the fat and round kind of artist...um, yeah...).Again...good job....one of my very fav's.
