Description
And so it begins..."I'm not gettin' on him." Vivian crossed her arms firmly across her chest and shook her head sternly. "Won't do it." She glared at the grullo stallion fiercely, and he blinked back with an uncanny innocence. Cecilia, who stood opposite from her younger sister in the barn aisle, rolled her eyes dramatically and sighed with exasperation.
"If he was a mare, would you care?" she asked with annoyance. Vivian's eyes shifted to her sister. She scowled furiously but didn't answer. A fading, half-hearted squeal averted their attention back to the stallion who was protesting to the tightening of his girth. His ears flickered backwards as he stared back at his sleek barrel. He grunted loudly as the man who tacked him up patted his shoulder.
"All ready for ya, ma'am," he said, offering the reins to Vivian. She stared at him coldly.
"Didn't you listen to a word of what we were saying?" she scoffed angrily, keeping her arms crossed.
"Er, no, ma'am," he replied with a slight chuckle. "I don't make others' business my own."
"Okay, quit it with the 'ma'am' thing, Joe," Vivian growled. "And I'm not riding that stallion." Joe turned to Cecilia questioningly.
"What do you want me to do with him, ma'am?" he asked with a sigh.
"Ride him?" Cecilia chuckled. "Would you?" The man hesitated and looked back at the stallion who was chewing on one of his reins.
"Sure," he replied, jerking the leather out of the stallion's mouth.
Marc's ears laid back as he listened to Joe checking the girth on the Dressage saddle one more time. The man tucked the toe of his boot into the silver stirrup and swung up on the broad back of the young stallion who instantly surged forward, nearly dumping his rider into the sand. Joe scrambled to collect the stallion and rein him in, a feat that was quickly accomplished. Joe worked the stallion slowly through his paces, keeping very tight control on the horse who kept chomping his bit and trying to surge forward.
After 3 minutes of walking and trotting, Cecilia told Joe to ask him for his canter. The man hesitated, pulling the stallion down to a standstill. Marc paced in place, preforming a very messy, almost-piaffe. Joe looked up at Cecilia, trying to hold the stallion in place.
"Ma'am, I don't know if I'm comfortable doing that," he said nervously.
"Come on, just once around the arena," Cecilia insisted. "He's far calmer than he was 30 minutes ago." Joe swallowed hard and let Marc walk on. Vivian leaned over to Cecilia as Joe put Marc on the rail and shortened up the reins.
"Um, he is absolutely not calmer now than he was 30 minutes ago," she scoffed. "If anything, he's more excited." Cecilia shrugged.
"What Joe doesn't know won't hurt him," she sighed.
"I'm not so sure about that..." Vivian trailed off as Joe cued the canter.
Marc launched forward, his arms jerked forward very hard as Marc dropped his nose and charged forward, straight into a very, very extended canter that teetered on the verge of a gallop. The stallion flicked his tail fiercely and bucked hard as he rolled his head.
"Sit up and pull him down!" Vivian yelled as Marc bucked again, nearly unseating his rider who clutched at the drooping reins. But Joe wasn't fast enough and Marc was too strong. The stallion slammed on his breaks and veered to the left, launching Joe over his head and then whipping him around in the air like a kite. The sound of leather snapping echoed in the arena as Joe snapped one of the stirrup leathers, the iron still wedged on his boot. The stallion shied at his airborne rider and stumbled backwards. Joe clutched the reins with a death grip as Marc bolted and dragged him across the sandy arena.
"Let go! Let go!" Vivian and Cecilia yelled, running into the arena and trying to slow the spooked stallion. Marc galloped past them, still dragging the man. As Marc shied at a corner and changed directions, he swung Joe out across the sand and slammed him into one of the arena walls. With a muffled yelp, Joe released the reins and lay motionless at the base of the wall. Vivian ran across the arena while Cecilia tried to catch Marc who was wide-eyed and foaming with sweat.
"Joe! You okay? Can you hear me?" Vivian asked, rolling Joe away from the base of the wall and onto his back. The man groaned and clutched at her arm, using it to pull himself up into a sitting position.
"I'm fine," he panted as a thin stream of blood made it's way from his nose to his lips.
"Stay still. Don't get up," Vivian insisted, holding him firmly by the shoulders. "Chill for a minute." Joe looked down at the arena sand and wiped the blood from his nose on his forearm as Vivian stood up and watched Cecilia trying to catch Marc. 'God, she is so ignorant,' she thought with annoyance as Cecilia took a leap for the dangling reins and completely missed, sending Marc off on another gallop. Vivian ran at the stallion waving her arms and shouting, pushing him faster. Marc glanced back at her, his ears swiveling as she pushed him. She made his run and then lowered her arms and told him to "woah." The stallion eagerly obliged, slowing to a trot and then a standstill. Vivian approached and grabbed the reins before Marc changed his mind about being still. She handed them off to Cecilia who lead the stallion out of the arena and back towards the barn. Vivian returned to Joe who was on his feet and pinching the end of his nose to stop the bleeding.
"You sure that you're okay?" she asked, grabbing his elbow to steady him.
"Yeah, I'll be fine," he managed. "But don't ask me to ride that damn stallion again."
"Hey, I didn't ask you," Vivian reminded him. "But feel free to go and give Cecilia a talking-to. God knows she needs it." Joe scoffed and tipped his head forward, releasing his nose to see if the bleeding had stopped.
"Yeah right," he replied. "Easy for you to say. I mean, coming from her sister. Not like you have worry about being fired. Ultimate job security, huh?" Vivian let go of his elbows and stopped walking. She looked at him in disbelief.
"You think I get job security from being employed by my sister?" she asked angrily.
"I can only assume so," Joe retorted bitterly. "You refuse to ride half the horses on the property. You haven't shown in months. And you have a track record for running other staff off. Sounds like any other place would have fired you long ago."
"Jesus Christ, Joe," Vivian said scornfully with a shake of her head. "I didn't realize that that was my reputation around the stable. Nice to know you all think so highly of me."
"Recognizing your mistakes is the first step towards correcting them," Joe replied as he brushed the sand off of his sleeves. He glanced at Vivian sternly with unwavering eye contact before walking past her and out of the arena.

Yeah. Big blow to your pride (and your head). Ouch.
Aw! Thank you! Joe nearly killed me. xD LOL I hate drawing people!
Yes, it hurts A LOT to fall this way... Like being body slammed... Hurts even more when instead of landing in the sand you land ON A WOODEN JUMP. That hurts TONS. And leaves 6 inch long blue and black bruises across your spine...

Well but it was worth the result.:3
And that's a good start. Though maybe try more like those manikin one can use for drawings. Those are much more convenient because you can get the proportions better.
Uh that sounds really ouch. The only bruises I got from falling off a horse where two hoof shaped ones on my back.^^
