Derpy's a forest princess
A quick sketch and three days of coloring later, here it is!!
This was a challenge to make, the trees and the grass were a pain in the ass (hey a rhyme!)
My recent trip to Washington state inspired this picture, a lot of great scenery.
But yeah, I was going for a "Bambi" inspired background for this pic.
So how are the trees, grass, lighting and whatnot? Did I do a fine job on them or do I need to practice on it more? (Because this is the first time I drew scenery like this)

The brightness of the background is the first thing I notice and unfortunately it kind of takes over the piece. Having a bright background and wanting a sun is fine but there is such a thing as too bright.
I'm not sure how much you intended this to happen but she feels more human/anthro than pony in that specific pose. It is very squee-like which is quite nice.
I'm not sure how I feel about her back legs not being visible. The length of the front legs tells me they should be but the pose doesn't require them.
The foreground tree on the right looks a bit odd. Trees end by splitting into smaller branches, not usually by becoming thinner and thinner. If you want to keep the same low number of branches, you can make a more sudden change in thickness to simply make it seem like the tree has lost some branches.
The white on the foreground left tree doesn't make a lot of sense. Yes, I know it's supposed to be bark ripped from the tree, but there isn't enough within the whiteness for me to see.
As always, rating critiques seems awful to me. Critiques are for improvement, not judgement.
Is there something you'd like to learn? More on shading? Composition? where do you want to go next?
