PLEASE READ: The bird in this photo is deceased: I found this Chipping sparrow, Spizella passerina, lying in the grass in my yard. It was a bit sad because they are one of my favourite sparrow species, but that's how life goes. I don't know how it died, and I couldn't find any obvious injuries. Whatever the case, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some very detailed photos of the wings and feathers and post it on DA in the hopes that artists who draw birds and non-avian theropods would find it particularly useful.Related content

This is fantastic! Thanks for putting it up... it's hard to find good photos of the ventral side of a wing!

I found a dead house sparrow the other day. It's weird, but it was quite fascinating to see it up close like that.

Did you pick it up? It's pretty neat to feel how light they are. You may as well be holding air

I did pick it up yes, it was really light. The first thing that struck me though, were it's tiny dinosaur feet
