Description
this is the diference between gen 1-3 pokemon and gen 5-7 pokemon, I didnt count 4 because it was more of a step to the new style, the style was changed at this point but sugimori was still payingg attention to the anatomy of the creature.the reason why many people think the new pokemon looks odd is because they changed the style a lot wich make the new pokemon looks like they come from a diferent game or something, its not the designs that are weird its how they are drawn that is the problem. not sure whats the idea behind this, becaue as far as I can see Sugimori still draw in his old style on his twitter account.
P.S I have seen far enought from gen 7 to know that they are keeping his kawaii style.

I heard Sugimori's involvement in character design is minimal nowadays, since Yusuke Ohmura has joined the character design department.
Ken Sugimori's art style is usually noticeable for the protagonists and the starters, whereas some of the other NPCs like are designed by Ohmura and some of the other staff in the art department.
Sugimori-sensei has taken in a lot of new artists in the art department since the end Gen IV, some of them from America and another from a mangaka. James Turner who designed Golett and Golurk and Honedge's designer Hitoshi Ariga respectively.

I noticed this with the ORAS andΒ gen 7 avatars. They always have the same dopey smile on their face that doesn't change whether they are talking to an npc, in a battle, or as they do Z-moves.

And this might explain why I cannot seem to draw early Pokemon well but I am alright with the simpler later mons. Anatomy is the issue! Thank you for pointing this out.

I like Blitzle as a Gen5 Pokemon, so I'm glad he has that more 'kawaii' style you mentioned. Β

I think they purposely did it as it looks much smoother and cleaner the new way, which appeals to kids a lot more

this is probabbly the reason, but its very stupid, we loved pokemon when we where kids and we neer complained about them not being cute enough so this doesnt make anysense

LOL now I see them trying to show us it's ment to be for kids XD "Comeone! It's a game for kids! Realise it! Get over it! We want young players! Grow up already!"
Thanks for showing the difference. I was wondering why I like first two generations of pokΓ©mons so much and then pokΓ©mons begun to look to me mostly very cheap designed.
Now I see it's also something to do with the style changing from epic to dummy.

Art styles of individuals change and since then new people have come and gone, of course Pokemon art style is going to change.

yeah , but this drastic change made a big gap between the new and old pokemon, also ken sugimor is still the chief character design and his style didnt change much in his personal artwork, he draw pokemon in a diferent style now which is odd.
