Description To finish off the year, here's the first in a collection of sprites I've been working on for a rather large private AU RP (codename "Or8") I have going on with some friends. This set includes the "canon trolls" (i.e. the original twelve) that have so far made appearances in the story. I've put a little summary of each (and the AU) for (vague and confusing) context.

AU: Sburb didn’t happen, the world moved on, Kanaya fell into a complicated vacillating relationship and ended up forming a secret family of rainbow drinkers (which have a very deep and elaborate biological mythos) with her two mates and had five children on Alternia. Meanwhile a revolution led by Karkat and Feferi is gaining ground to overthrow Her Imperious Condescension.

Karkat Vantas (15 sweeps)
Leader of the Alternian Resistance Movement and major figure of the revolution. While a supporter of Feferi’s claim, the troll populace looks to him as the second coming of The Sufferer and the one who will lead the troll race into a new era of peace, prosperity, and equality. Unofficial moirail to Kanaya and one of the few who knows about her family.

Nepeta Leijon (15 sweeps)
Karkat’s aide and matesprit (due to events occurring approximately 6 sweeps ago). Helps Karkat with leading the resistance and ensures that their location remains unknown to the imperial forces. Along with Karkat, one of the few who knows about the rainbow drinkers.

Kanaya Maryam (15 sweeps)
Rainbow Drinker “Matron” and motherly figure in her family consisting of her lovers Freyea and Vriska, her five children Astrea, Aphaea, Masari, Crysia, and Apocri, and several other characters, all of which are rainbow drinkers or variants thereof.

Terezi Pyrope (15 sweeps)
Former legislacerator neophyte who recently defected to the resistance with the help of Freyea and the rainbow drinkers. Has suffered from various psychological traumas and a troubled romantic past with Karkat that has led to some unresolved tension between the two since their reunion.

Vriska Serket (15 sweeps)
Rainbow drinker (turned by Kanaya) and lover of Kanaya and Freyea. Has had a long and troubled relationship with the group due to a violent and unwilling beginning to her participation of it. Has since completely reconciled with the family.

Eridan Ampora (15 sweeps)
Admiral of Feferi’s fleet and military high commander, reporting only to Feferi and Karkat. While no longer in a moirallegiance with Feferi, the breakup was far more smooth and he now seeks to assist her by proving himself as a capable commander. Is largely competent but suffers from emotional stress when dealing with the heiress.

Feferi Peixes (15 sweeps)
Heiress and claimant to the throne. Leader of the resistance and highly controversial for her proclaimed pursuits of egalitarianism and less draconian societal system, though many look to Karkat Vantas to ensure that she keeps her promises, while others still distrust her political ideals. Long-time friend of Kanaya and Freyea, and another of the few who knows the existence of the rainbow drinkers.

I'll be making a few more of these batches (I already have a few other sprites done), including a couple of the ancestors and a bunch of fantrolls, so if those things tickle your fancy, stay tuned. I also have one other sprite project in the works that I'll be finishing up in between which is a little different. Basically, if you like talksprites, I'm going to have them in abundance.

Happy New Year everyone!

All characters shown and Homestuck belong to Andrew Hussie.

Looks great! But the sad thing is, we don't know how long Karkat is going to live. Even if Sburb hadn't happened, he is probably to be one of the first ones to die due to his low blood status. I cannot say whether he'd be before Aradia, or right before Nepeta, but it's sad to think about. ;w;

Thanks!

And yes, you are indeed correct that, if we're assuming that Karkat's mutant blood is genetically speaking lower on the spectrum than maroon (which is the stance I take, as opposed to the other prevailing theory that his position astrologically is more relevant and that mutant red is genetically equivalent to lime i.e. somewhere between yellow and green), then his lifespan shouldn't be more than "a dozen or two sweeps". Personally in the context of this AU, I translated mutant blood as having another implication. By this point in his life, Karkat has begun developing cancer, and as a result is effectively dying (though he hasn't made that fact known to the public). He would not be living very much longer, but rest assured that in Or8 at least he will be saved by the timely interference of a little something called "immortality through rainbow drinkerdom" (that he may or may not actually want)... Or8 is not the most lighthearted of tales...

I hate to see how Gamzee and Sollux would end up.

I actually have an answer for that. I've been redoing these for a while in a more consistent format, and with that pass I've done all the trolls.
I haven't uploaded them here yet (I plan on putting them all up as one image once the full set is complete), but you can find the pieces at this location (just scroll down a bit): trichotome.tumblr.com/tagged/O…

Indeed. It is a shame...
Thankfully, AUs where everything is great and nothing hurts are also a thing. They may not be canon, but they're a lot less filled with death (that's a lie, the AUs are also filled with death).

If they never played the game they would be just like there ancestors I think.

To a large degree I would agree that they might follow similar paths, though in many respects the descendants and ancestors are very different in their behaviour, so while they might perform some of the same actions, their method of doing so may vary drastically. Karkat for example would probably take a far more tactically sound approach to social reform in comparison to his ancestor (or at the very least a less pacifist one).
It's an interesting topic to speculate upon.

I agree somethings would be the same but not all like Aradia would not be like the Handmaid because she would not grow up like her but Vriska would be a lot like mindfang!

I definitely concur the cases where characters had different upbringings would lead to significantly different lives, though I suppose another thing to consider would be how each person's psychological profile and their context of upbringing might affect them.

Vriska for example makes a clear display of insecurity of her self-identification, instead opting to attempt to exactly mimic the life and path of her own ancestor (going so far as to associate herself romantically with the descendents of Dualscar and the Summoner much like her ancestor did). I can't help but feel though that with age she might eventually come to find this to be disingenuous and not work in the context of her own life. She might chose to follow it through and through (which could be difficult seeing as the Gambligants are technically gone, though she could find a way around it) or find a path of her own, which might be similar, but distinctly different.

There are also matters of context such as adults not living on Alternia, and as such being separated by far greater distances. That too might have an effect (and raises the issues of how wild cards like Karkat, Kanaya, and Feferi would escape their expected paths based on their hemospectrum levels, not to mention these three and some others have significant personality differences that make them more of an inversed or mirror version of their ancestors, using the same themes but with a completely opposite disposition).

I could certainly go into my own assessments of how I think things would play out for each of them, though that would be highly time consuming and I've already rambled long enough here...

Well thank you for taking the time and talking to me! But in the end I think we can both say that they would have somewhat the same life's as their ancestors.

My pleasure. I would go on but I know I get a bit carried away with blathering and I wouldn't want to pester you with such things.
I Think that is something we can agree on certainly. There would almost certainly be similarities.
