Description Custom painted Splinter figure from the new TMNT show. I painted him to look more like the original from the animated show from the 80's/90's

Hm, my guess is they wanted to give him a bit more of an asian look to make him look more like his human counterpart, he is japanese you know.

All though, it's some interesting changes they decided to make with Splinter, that he is leaner, less fraquil, doesn't look ancient, is taler than the turtles, clearly is in no way weak. It does change his dynamic with the turtles quite a bit, they don't need to be careful with the old man, they can be as rough as they like, as long as they don't mind getting beaten up over it. (all though, that is funny, yeah you can try trick me, i'm just going to beat you right back.) That does remove a bit of tenderness from the dynamic. but I also assume that when Splinter finally starts fighting along-side the turtles it's going to pay off.

that said, I dig the more rustic shambled look you gave him, that does indeed look more like a rat living in the sewer... I got no idea why new splinters staff is green, does any-one have any idea?

Wasn't he always Japanese. Hhmm I don't remember if he was human in the original comics but I do remember him being human in the cartoon show. I think they were trying to make him more of a father figure not an old ninja master. But yeah you're about what it takes away from the dynamic. I believe the green staff is supposed to be piece of solid mutogen

he was a a mutated rat in the original comics, the movies and the 2003 cartoon show.

He was a human who mutated into a rat in the 87 show and this new 2012 show. It has started airing you know, and as it turns out, this 2012 show is actually a big tribute and update of the 87 show more than the comics. The ooze is back as a plot device for one thing, and as I just said, for the first time since the 87 show, Splinter is a human whom turned into a rat instead of a rat whom turned humanoid.

But yeah, Splinter always came from Japan, no matter what version he had a japanese master and lived by japanese traditions and ideals, and always had a voice-actor whom sounded sort of asian in all versions.

I guess you can argue whether a black rat looks more asian than a brown one, but there ya go.

Solid mutagen? I don't know.. begs the question where the heck he would have gotten that from, I do think it's more like a cool looking jade stick or some-thing.. I don't know, clearly he doesn't need a walking stick in this version and has it with him more as a weapon than any walking help.

I would've thought so too. How long did it take you to finish him?

the black & white color scheme is actually realistic for a fancy rat. I used to work at a place with animals, and fancy dumbo rats with such color patterns were not unusual, though single-colored rats (brown, gray) were more common. Still, it looks strange for Splinter, and I agree that the brown color looks a lot better on him.

[link] - a rat with a black & white color pattern slightly resembling the new Splinter. Classic Splinter colors = much better.

i know. but his picture on the box is different than the fig. it has way more black in the face. but still the brown one is better.
