She's a really good model for this.

Oh hell yeah she is...

The costuming was perfect for her as well... I made the loin cloth, but tossed her the strip of cloth for the top, and told her to be creative... I expected her to make a head wrap, or waist belt, but instead, she made the top out of it, which turned out rather nice! She had a BLAST with the wand though... and the old tomes.

Thanks! I really liked the smoke effect... I just wish I would have waited until the end of the shoot to do it, as the smoke sort of stayed around the 2studio for... well... a while. Even with the ventalation system piping it all outside, it was still quite "foggy" for a few hours after that set, as seen in later images. But yeah, I was going for a mystical look, and I was quite pleased with the depth produced by the smoke effect.

Aye... that it is!

heh.... you should have seen the look on her face, the first time she walked into my studio, and saw my library... and that wasn't even the hidden library behind the wall!

A lot of it is because I do Renaissance Faires, and used to joust.

I also like going to thrift stores (as well as shopping at SCA events, and Ren Faires, and costume shops and eBay) so I'm constantly finding new props.

Nods, I totally understand that. I used to do that quite a bit, been a few years and several moves and a lot has gone on ebay to pay for the moves. Quite alright though as I do much more in nature than I do in studio.

I'm doing a shoot in Az in two wee4ks, and most will be outdoor shots... what I have going for me, is it's an SCA event... so lots of mediaeval tents, and costumes...

So I understood from disturbedfairy, sounds like fun, its been quite a while since I went to such. I wonder if my friends will be there, though probably not as she is in University now so not able to get a lot of time loose.

nods, I don't do other than purely professional / friends relationships. I understand your enthusiasm about her as a model however.

Warflight In reply to skiesofchaos [2009-01-26 11:21:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, same here... but it's a bit different with her... we have somewhat of a "two ships in the night" sort of past. I've know her since before I was doing photography, and we are long time friends, never knowing about our various "ships passings" out of respect for each other... and she has a guy now, who I have a bit of respect for, so that sort of thing is simply in the past. Thus i'm a bit proctective over her as well! Her boy knows she's in safe hands at Estrella, because she's got myself, Bekah, and my flatmate Alen all watching her back. (and Bekah is scarey sometimes!)

Good to hear. Too many people out there that do the dwac thing and are just really bad for the honest artists.

Oh tell me about it.

I had a model once, who actually told me that i was the first photographer she had ever posed for that didn't try to have sex with her... all I could think was "WHAT THE HELL SORT OF PHOTOGRAPHERS HAS SHE BEEN USING!?!"

Sorry, I may be a amature at photography, but I like to keep my attitude rather professional. This is my art, and I make no money off of it... I cannot afford to pay a model, so they leave with gifts... copies of all of their sets... final say on what I post, or do not post (if a model says they don't like it, it gets destroyed, or deleted) wine, or soda, and their choice of music while shooting... snacks... and otherthings (like the magic cards I gave to both Bekah, and kendal... appearantly these cards are worth a LOT, as they were never produce outside of being gifts for industry professionals... I'm a writer, and do Comicon for my publisher, and glare menacingly at people during autograph sessions, and panel discussions... the former I refuse to do any more... the latter... well, who can resist heckling the audiance during a panel discussion? I mean, seriously!)

I keep professional because I don't just have to, but because I want to... that's the honerable thing to do, and I live by my honor. It keeps the models comming back. It gives me a good reputation. i see all the flaws in my photography, but, my attitudes, and professionalism helps the models to see past them, until I learn to correct them... and then, my attitudes, and skill will both speak for themselves.

But that's just me.
