Description
The fusion capacitor, or F-Cap for short, is a new ammo type that I developed for a new weapon mod. Unlike the standard version of a fusion cell or the larger fusion core, this little fusion reactor can actually be refilled once it is depleted (unlike the other two portable fusion reactor types, which simply burn out once they run out of fuel and the containment field collapses because of the lack of power).
F.caps consist of the toroid fusion reactor core salvaged from a common fusion cell, a little gas cartridge, and a new circuitry board that manages the flow of the hydrogen isotopes into both the reactor and the gas cartridge during the refueling process. In order to protect this little power plant, everything is wrapped up nicely in a used Buffout pillbox, with only the plug and four reinforcing clamps exposed in the cap. And if somebody does not know the proper ratio of isotopes, the F-Cap has it noted on a little manual stuffed into the case, among with a little warning about fire hazards (remeber kids: do not throw batteries into a fire, especially if the batteries are actually portable fusion reactors ).
At a total weight of 2 pounds, it is less efficient than a fusion cap or fusion core, as it only contains enough energy for 20 shots. However, being rechargable this weight issue is totally negated, as the operator can carry the F-Cap recharger in his backpack, with the recharging sockets strapped onto on his belt. He just needs to put the depleted F-Caps back into a free socket, and the recharger will do the rest, providing a recharged F-Cap every 30 seconds.
