Hardly a dumb question as I am not exactly sure. But it seems Swamp Thing has a connection to nature and natural forces and energies in the Swamp Thing comics this is referred to as "The Green" I believe. He is able to communicate and is very intelligent.
Man Thing I think is more like a monster with no real conscious or human like qualities except two arms two legs and two eyes.

I am a Marvel fan and I think ManThing just looks better, though I have never read of the books he is in.
