This is a fanart for the fic "Cry for Hyrule" www.fanfiction.net/s/3993350/1β¦ , written by !So I started reading the story this morning, and regretted not doing it sooner. I have always disliked Daphnes from Wind Waker since I beat the game, and this story successfully turned that distaste in hate.
I love how the actual game plot combines so neatly with original theories and contents. I was completely rooting for Ganondorf the whole time. He wrecked me, and this is one of the scenes that broke my heart, as he tried to escape from the flood while holding the last one of his people
I can't bring myself to beat him in WW anymore, and its all her fault.

It's kind of sad really, Ganondorf is just a tool for the evil curse Demise placed on Link and Zelda's ancestors. He probably doesn't even know why he does these things himself.

Basically they said they wonder why they did not see this earlier and that they liked the fic. They say they saw King Hyrule to be a good guy but not anymore and they feel bad about it.
Also, they say your art made them see Ganon a way they never saw him and now they feel bad for him.

"Cry for Hyrule" touched me so much. The next time I played The Wind Waker after reading it, I actually started viciously smacking the King's head with my boomerang.
...And my sword.
...And some arrows.
...And maybe a few bombs.

This is really sad and tragic, and makes so much sense for the characters involved.

Yeah, it's hard to hate WW's version of Ganondorf, for a lot of reasons. However, I also don't feel particularly sorry for him (others are another matter) because while the Goddesses are the ones that drowned Hyrule...They did so because of the evil he had wrought in his lust for power. He may have started out wanting a better life for the Gerudo, but that took a far lower position in his grand schemes in the seven years he spent ravaging Hyrule as the King of Darkness and the time he spent after the seal broke doing it again.

It's such a pity you don't like Daphnes. He's actually one of my favorite Zelda characters, and I'm pretty sure he had some good motives for destroying Hyrule, some are actually visible in the game. But I have to say that WW Ganny is one incredible guy (my fave Ganny of all time, in fact), and he had his motives as well. I even wrote a fanfic retelling OOT and WW from the point of view of Daphnes, explaining why he washed away Hyrule, it's not yet posted but everything's written I just need to type it back on the computer. Anyway, I'd love to get the chance to understand why you dislike him and root for Ganny!Β
About the drawing, it's really gorgeous. Even though I can't undestand the scene, I love the atmosphere, the colour scheme and the expressions on the characters' faces. Very beautiful stuff as always

It is beautiful and I love it.
I wrote the story after finishing Wind Waker for the first time. I was so angry because we couldn't save Hyrule! For Daphnes to destroy his own country didn't make sense. So I wrote the fic instead. XD
I can't beat him in WW anymore either. XD

I still remember the first time i beat WW. The moment Daphnes said his wish, i couldn't believe it. I even wrote in a diary how disturbed and confused i was. Why in hell would he wish to destroy Hyrule is beyond my comprehension. Β
Thank you so much for the fanfic!!Β I already replaced the canon with fanon, because I always felt the need for a legit motive to be angry and cry over WW ending.
(Ganon's laugh was beautiful in the ending though.)

The idea is that Ganondorf was in love with a Gerudo girl (who I have not yet come up with a name for) but she was executed and offered to the Sand Goddess as a sacrifice, and a devastated Ganondorf is contacted by Demise's spirit in a dream, who tells him "Hate can bring us back, give us strength. Embrace it!" thus, Ganon's descent into darkness began.

Romance involving Ganondorf is always welcomed 
But the girl was executed by who? I doubt Ganondorf would be unable to stop the sacrifice if it was done in Gerudo tribe.Β And Hylians wouldn't kill in name od the Sand Goddess.

it happened before he was old enough to take the throne, so he didnt get a say in it.Β

Twinrova (or Koume and Kotake) would have held incredible sway in the Gerudo tribe, even with Ganondorf as the future king. She/they seems the type to have insisted on such a sacrifice for her powers, and having been raised by her/them, Ganondorf would have been more open to the idea of allying with darker forces to aid his own ends.
Sorry to butt in, but this idea of yours sounds great.
