Description
Tensions were high; perhaps the highest they have been during this catastrophe. You could feel it in your heart… A cold, black, unwelcoming evil. Nobody said a word, but of course, how could anyone? This was the final lunge… The final façade we could provide to Frodo for a chance to win.To win against such evil.
You rode upon Ahnvae, your trusty mare, alongside many who knew this defeat could cost much more than any could foresee. Charcoal-black splinters of rock rose to high mountains, jagging and splitting inferiorly towards the darkening sky. Could this be it?
Your sparkling hues dulled as you watched the Black Gate come into view; the home of Mordor inside. Thunder rumbled. Fellow riders tensed. The spiked, bulging wall seemed to be towering over you and the army.
‘We must do this… For Frodo… For Middle Earth.’ You reminded yourself, straightening your spine, grasping the reins harder.
The unspoken silence was sickening as troops managed to throw themselves into ranks, spears and shields held firmly. You rode ahead, with your Fellowship, casting gentle glances of worry. The horses came to a stop, treading and neighing nervously.
Just as soon as you had stopped, Aragorn and his horse road forward, Gandalf and Legolas close behind. You gingerly followed, Ahnvae whipping her tail anxiously in defiance. You could tell your fellow Elf’s eyes were burning into you, seeking reassurance you were okay… but you couldn’t look.
You knew you needed to focus. You had to calm yourself down… you’ve rode into battle countless times and yet Mordor was so different… so, evil.
This force killed your adoptive family… Sauron killed your friends and your past life in Walstow.
But nothing more will die… no more pain will pursue.
“Rohan! Come forth!” You jolted up to Aragorn’s words. “Let justice be done upon him!”
Silence.
Finally, your blue hues met with Legolas’. Giving him a confident nod, you gave your attention back to the looming gates of black.
Before you could react, the Black Gates clanged and slowly began to open. Ahnvae rounded and trotted back to the army, Aragorn and the remains of the Fellowship close behind. Every moment was torture as the gates continued to reveal Mordor’s army.
Thousands of Orcs stood, the shining light of Sauron’s eye illuminating their danky armor.
The eye… the eye from the Orb!
Your skin crawled as you gave your head a light shake, squeezing your eyes for a moment of peace. The orcs roared as they progressively got closer. “Hold your ground!” Aragorn barked.
The troops seemed to straighten themselves out, seeing your dear friend as a leader. As King.
“Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me!” Aragorn bellowed, staring at the army of men in determination seeming… fearless. You couldn’t help but stare at him in amazement.
“A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship; but it is not this day! An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day!” He rode his stallion in triumph, as if we had already won such a battle as this.
Aragorn spoke words of confidence. The minds of many seemed to be eased, the adrenaline of battle roaring in their veins. Even you felt less anxious.
“This day we fight!” Aragorn gripped the hilt of his sword, chin high. “By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!” The sharp weapon was thrust into the sky, an applaud of guttural yells calling in agreement and a new found energy.
Swords flew high as the Orc army continued to pour out, your attention pure on the formidable.
They circled you now, seemingly swallowing you whole. Your ear twitched, “never thought I’d die side by side with an Elf.” Gimli remarked, casting a glare toward Legolas. “What about side by side with a friend?” He smiled gently, the two of them gentle.
“Aye… I could do that.”
You sighed lowly, giving the pair a lipped smile. ‘We have come this far… we surely cannot give our hope to evil.’
Hopping off your horses, you equipped yourself and readied for war. Aragorn turned back, his eyes red and glassy, “For Frodo.” He declared before darting himself forward, cries of battle echoing.
You kicked off your heels after him, a sword in both hands. You could hear the swivel of arrows being flown through the air, cries of pain or clanks of armor sounding off. Easily you could lose yourself in the sound of war.
There were no friendly affairs between your fellow Elf and Dwarf… no smart remarks or half assed laughs. This was as real as ever… The last chance to end this War.
You ducked under a heavy swing, twisting to lunge your sword deep into the flesh of an Orc. You easily hopped back up, stabbing it through its open windpipe. With ease you slipped your sword out, the other used to slice into another enemies flank.
The cry of a Fellbeast sounded ahead, the large creatures flapping their expanded wings. You looked for Legolas frantically, wanting to warn him of the upcoming danger; to ready his bow. A shriek sounded, and you immediately recognized the large eagles of good.
With fight happening on and off ground, you resumed your position of swinging your swords mercilessly. You could feel the hard smack of weapons hitting your body, knocking the air out of your lungs.
As you twirled your body to land another count, you felt the hot sting of steel penetrate your ribcage, a victory screech sounding in your ear. “(Y/N)!” A voice screamed from afar.
You spat out blood as you tried to puzzle what had happened. The Orc behind you retreaded his weapon, raising it to provide a final blow. With a pain filled cry you dove your sword deep into his exposed belly, driving deep to the hilt.
A clang of steel fell to the dirt below as the light of Sauron’s eye disappeared, the screeching above retreating toward Mordor. You flinched, stepping back, your arms limp and dangling as your knuckles gleamed red from the force of grasp.
“(Y/N)!” You heard the scream again, seemingly further away and drowned out. ‘Pippin…There’s so much noise… So much movement…Where are you? Where is Legolas… Gandalf…” Without thought you continued to slash and push, mindlessly slaying Orcs as you felt the rare pool of blood seep down your side.
Your steel boots moved over dead bodies littering the soil, staining in blood as you felt your body pleading to give up… begging to lie down.
You watched in dissociation as Aragorn fell under a large Orc, Legolas desperately trying to reach him. Your elf eyes couldn’t even identify where the small Hobbits were, or where Gandalf’s white cloak flashed.
‘The clumsiness of an Elf rose by humans… is this how I am going to die?’ Tears threatened to blind your eyes as you angrily ripped your right sword across a dark chest, your left swinging into the neck. You kicked the Orc away, stumbling forward.
A distorted screech rang in your ears, causing you to shy away from the sound. Your dizzy eyes watched as the tower of Sauron crumbled, dust and stones billowing and shattering from under the weight.
The Orcs around you cried, running in the opposite direction in defeat. All eyes were on Mordor, relief and joy filled the hearts of all as the vibration from the crash rippled through. The ground started to give away, seemingly eating up the vile creatures.
Towers and parts of the Gate gave way, the Volcano exploding with magma. Everything grew silent in disbelief. ‘Frodo…Sam…’
Your body contorted in pain as you fell to your knees, swords falling to the ground as you grasped the threatening stab wound. You knew others were just as hurt, crying and grunting in pain. A call sounded, “Legolas, Aragorn! (Y/n) is hurt!”
The familiar cry of Pippin alerted your Elven ears, but you felt too weak to pay any attention. “(Y/n)! Please, stay with me, Mani marte?” (What happened?) The Elf fret, his hands hugging yours, applying pressure to the wound.
“Melamin…” (My love) You whispered, leaning your body back into his. “We will get you to safe keepings… You will be alright.” He persisted. The both of you knew your immortality would save you… breathe you new life…
Your blue hues met that of his, worry and love conflicting his eyes. “(Y/n)… I wish to wed you.” Legolas spoke. Your heart seemed to stop, another jolt of pain seizing your body as you sat up. “Legolas…” You breathed, your eyes round, your face flush.
As others came to aid your wound, all you could do was smile, tears pricking your eyes. “Yes! Oh by the stars, yes Legolas!” You reared in pain, grasping your bloody wound as help came, steering you away from the battle ground to seek aid.
The war was won… and a deeper joy gravitated. Although your injury was painful, and fatal to a mortal man, there was more to rejoice than winning this battle.
And that was your love for the Prince of Mirkwood.
