Description
I saw the first episode of Bates Motel a few nights ago (they had it posted for everyone to watch for free... I'm a recession baby pauper with no paid television networking, go cheap people?)... guiltily enough I loved it - I have a soft spot for psychotic Mama's boys who dress nicely. The show is a evolution of Norman story/modern prequel to Psycho. The show is not without its large faults, I would had much preferred if it had been set in the 60's, the dialogue wasn't really witty or all too interesting, it did not have Hitchcock's subtlety, etc. etc.. but I still loved it all the same. Now, if only I knew someone with cable or a directTV account... *tear falls silently down cheek*Don't post this on tumblr! I've already uploaded it (oh yes, I have one now) if reblogging interests you... go here [link]
Enjoy!

Ahhhh, I have been so excited for Bates Motel Norman Bates is probably one of my favorite "villains" to date (I never thought of him as an antagonist for some reason....I always just thought of him as unfortunately influenced), Pyscho being the first Hitchcock film I ever saw and definitely a favorite....I agree with you on the show, it's for sure not as good as the movie it's based on (but that would be pretty unbelievable if it was), but it's still pretty wonderful. And Freddie Highmore is surprisingly pretty spot on....who would've guessed Charlie had a murderous side O O then again, with Sweeney Todd as his guardian who could blame him
Oh, all the Burton jokes.
Anyway, geez, I love this :3 The detail is beautiful, and the colors and expression are just so perfect...(and also, I happen to have both DirectTv and a love for anything Hitchcock, so consider yourself invited over anytime )

(So sorry for the late reply! I will make it up to you with an essay!)
I began seeing the ads for it everywhere and got so excited! I was so relieved when I realized they had posted the pilot on their website. Norman Bates is very intriguing. Not only does he have split personality, but his alter ego is his mother - making him one of the more fascinating baddies you can't help but love. And I agree with you, he is just unfortunately influenced and damaged. Haha, I actually first saw Psycho in a park, casted onto a miniature version of that giant blown up screen we watched Toy Story on, with free popcorn. Hitchcock is hard to live up to, which is why the show is getting such horrible critics. For some reason I enjoy retellings (Queen of the Damned, the Silent Hill film -not the 2nd, *shivers*), but I think the show would had been better received if they had just changed all the names of the characters and kept with the story, though I can't think of a more badass names than Norman and Norma Bates. I also realized that the website posts the new episodes every week so I've been extremely happy, even if I have to sit through long commercials to watch it! I think the show is getting better as it goes along, the first two episodes had me concerned that the show would fall apart rapidly, I mean, Pot fields and Chinese slaves?... Why is Norman Bates in this again? But now the show has picked up again, focusing more on the murder and relationships/personality of Norman, which I feel should be the major focus (not those damn pot fields and slaves....) And of course, being me, all I could imagine as those adverts with Freddie Highmore played was Charlie and Wonka Sweeney having nice long conversations as little Charlie grew up, keep those Burton jokes coming! And who knows, maybe Norman will throw his future victims into the motel's continental breakfast. Highmore does an amazing job at playing the sweet innocent clueless psycho boy - I really can't think of a better actor to do it, which is perfect because his entire acting career he has been type-casted as the sweet little boy. His natural stiffness which seems to be so typical of British actors/skinny people is also another wonderful built in feature of him because it is so unique but perfect for Norman. Thank you! It was very fun to draw - got to enjoy an evening of angsty songs involving mothers. I will have to take you up on that offer next time I'm in town! Just to freak out the neighbors I'll bring the old pink night gowns and gray wigs!

(I'm sorry for the later reply! Aaugh! x( )
When I first heard of it surfing the web a few weeks before it premiered, I will admit I was honestly rather worried- there had been so many classic remakes that had come lately and failed to meet my expectations (Elementary being one....ah, Sherlock was good enough, why try and americanize it?). But when I did decide to watch, I was pleasantly surprised! It honestly seems very true to the original, but still was able to have a little breathing space and do what it felt was right. Overall I feel like it's a fitting backstory...prequel...modern retelling....whatever form of beast it is Oh, that's great! The first time I saw Pyscho was not that fun, I had heard of it for years and eventually secretly recorded it on TV when it popped up!
I agree though, it had its flaws xD The whole Chinese subplot was a little bizarre, and most of the first episodes carried something of an awkwardness to them. I think they have sort of straightened out for the most part, and I love the relationships Norman keeps-espicially between him and Emma. Heavens, I'm starting to love their doomed realtionship!
High ore was surprisingly one of my favorite things about the show- he's able to convey this very innocent sweet kid as well as a scarred awkward guy at the same time. And ah! I'm sure Norman picked up a few things from his mentor, yes. Lovett had Toby, Todd has awkward young future ladykiller (oh heavens, someone needs to kill me for that pun...)
Ah, this was long! I apologize! and yes! I look forward to it!!

(Well you can see how well I'm doing with replying XD).
dA had bombarded me with ads for it so that was how I became aware of it (advertising worked for once?) and oh Jove, Elementary. Guilty enough I haven't tried to watch it but the trailer looks horrid. Why even try to Americanize Sherlock? You know you can't improve it. It was great, doesn't need a remake. I agree! I like what ever it made be, it's interesting and unique, doesn't try to baby itself too badly by only revolving around teenage turmoil as I feared would be its focus. And I do enjoy Emma and Norman's doomed relationship quite a bit. I just saw the final and felt it kind of fell short. The previous two episodes didn't grip me as well - Norman has kind of become too 2-dimensional. I don't know what it is, he just feels flat in the most recent episodes compared to the first few. The story line has also become less engaging (the cliff hanging was possibly the first hanging that didn't really cause me to hunger for the next season immediately). Hopefully season two will pick up the pace again, I still enjoy the show quite a bit but, we need more mess up Norman!

(You're doing marvelously xD)
Elementary...hurm. I actually really did try to watch that show despite my better judgement (mostly because I have some respect for Jonny Lee Miller and it's still Holmes) but its obvious after the first few episodes the writers have no idea what Sherlock Holmes really is. And exactly! Sherlock's great as is, no need to copy it. With Elementary, you could slap different names on the characters and it'd be just another generic detectiv show. Exactly! I haven't been able to watch it for a while...so I'm a tad worried xD but I did hear some talk that Season One did kind of lose itself, do I suppose I'll just had to keep my chin up and hold faith, haha.

As I said, they were just doing some old fashion leeching and unfortunately for them they didn't have the success or impact of elder leeches such as Adams Family. Sherlock should not ever be touched. The channel did renew Bates for a second season so we don't have to worry about that... what lies in that season will truly determine it's fate though.

Yeah...I will say, I do like SOME variants of Holmes. I won't lie, I loved the Guy Richie films. The soundtrack, the sets, the costumes, Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, that was pretty fantastic xD But ugh, Elementary does not do it for me. I know people who watch it quite avidly, and from what I've heard from them the producers don't know anything about the source material...give BBC Sherlock credit, they at least made fun of the whole deerstalker craze...
